Summary of Position
- Monitor daily/weekly schedules to identify and review all HMO, Medicare, Self-Pay accounts according to the policies and procedures established and reports all areas of concern to Billing Supervisor.
- Develop a daily appointment scheduling list with patient balances to be distributed to the front office staff detailing the amount of money to collect from each patient.
- Meet with new patients upon first office visit. Confirm demographic information; explains insurance benefits to patient, detailing their financial responsibility and obtains necessary consent form signatures, including the HIPAA policy. Inputs changes and other pertinent information obtained into the computer.
- Identify patients not meeting their financial responsibilities according to their treatment plan (or those with ongoing account balances) and makes arrangements to meet with them prior to their visit.
- Identify patients who will have a financial responsibility for surgery or other procedure and completes/reviews with them the estimate of service form.
- Meet with those patients prior to receiving services, explaining what the financial responsibility will be, and determines a method of payment for them.
- Request authorizations as required for internal services as well as outside tests, hospital admittance and referrals to doctors. Documents all information in practice management system.
- Verify eligibility of patients, if needed, and keeps the practice management system updated for any changes.
- Update the practice management system for any insurance changes made and verifies benefits input into system.
- Resolve any insurance and self pay issues.
- Work closely with the Billing Supervisor to ensure that patient financial obligations are being met and that self-pay patients are properly handled.
- Assist patients in completing the Patient Assistance Application and any other forms, as required.
- Make use of the patient assistance program for under-insured patients.
- Maintains and ensures the confidentiality of all patient or employee information at all times.
- Other duties as assigned by the Billing Supervisor or Director.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Must have 2 years experience in the medical field working with insurances
- Medical terminology, ICD 9 and CPT coding
