CobbFendley is seeking an experienced Construction Inspector in Atlanta, Georgia.
  

QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate’s most important qualifications include the following.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Business, Finance, or related field; preferred. Can be substituted with 5 years of Utility Coordination/Construction Inspector experience.
  • 4 years familiarity with all types of outside plant construction and experience managing large capital projects required.
  • General understanding of utility locating methods such as fiber, coax, power, gas, etc.
  • Mark up drawings with utility location information at Level A, B, C, & D precision (where relevant).
  • GDOT Construction/Utility Inspection experience, preferred.
  • Experience inspecting cast-in-place concrete structures.
  • Familiarity with G Suite application, Microsoft Excel and Word, Google Earth, and AutoCAD.
  • Must be able to manage multiple aggressive RFP and design construction schedules and responses.
  • Ability to read and interpret applicable plans, schematics, blueprints, and maps.
  • Knowledge of principles of utility coordination and associated terminology.
  • Strong work ethic and able to work independently on the job site.
  • Ability to use logic and reason to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

  • Track Broadband/Telecom construction activities and crews at sites to observe compliance with Client specifications and approved plans. If noncompliant, report to the client
  • Verify construction progress, record field notes, and construction pictures, and track progress. Identify potential conflicts, and notify the client, after client approval, work with the Engineer of Record to proceed with field design changes. 
  • Hold Pre-Con meeting on-site with the contractor to ensure all parties know the project scope and schedule expectations.
  • Verify supplier invoices match the work performed in the field and ensure contractual specifications are met.
  • Assist with preparing RFPs to bid out third-party construction crews. 
  • Schedule and attend Utility Meetings, Public Utility Meetings, One-to-One Utility Meetings, GDOT / Municipality coordination meetings, on-site field visits, and any necessary One-on-Ones. 
  • Maintain contact with all stakeholders and report construction progress to clients at least once a week. 
  • Locate underground utilities with nondestructive techniques such as pipe and cable locater (as needed) to verify location and depth and submit findings. 
  • Mark up gathered specific fiber facility conflict information on construction drawings or google earth shots in Revu with specific information, including the embedding of pictures in the file to submit to PM.
  • Request and submit as-builds to clients and project managers.  
  • Enter and manage all pay items in the Clients accounting system as required.
  • Travel to CobbFendley offices and potential clients’ offices throughout the CobbFendley market area as needed.
  • Perform independent research and adapt to changing priorities. Work in a collaborative team environment with minimal supervision. 
  • Maintain a professional attitude and fulfill responsibilities with integrity.
  • Be self-motivated to work in a dynamic environment with strict deadlines.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Walking long distances on climbing on uneven surfaces
  • Remaining on one’s feet in an upright position for extended periods of time
  • Driving for extended periods of time to multiple job sites
  • Remaining in a seated position for extended periods of time
  • Climbing up and down ladders
  • Physical mobility in and around construction sites, traffic work zones, and other field assignments.
  • Alert and responsive while working in lane closure zones adjacent to high volume average daily traffic
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment and supplies such as wheel barrels, measuring tape, ladders, etc., (weighing 25lbs-50lbs) in remote, rural, or urban surroundings
  • Repeated motions (e.g., reaching, bending, stooping, carrying, lifting, pushing, pulling, and handling various types of equipment
  • Communication with other employees and clients
  • Extended periods of Personal Protective Equipment use including steel toe boots, respirators, high impact gloves, safety glasses, and hard hats

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS

  • Exposure to indoor and outdoor environments (approximately 80% of duties are to be performed outdoors in the field and 20% are performed indoors in the office/warehouse)
  • Entering confined spaces
  • Ability to withstand extreme weather conditions (i.e., hot, and freezing temperatures, dustiness, etc.)
  • Walking on uneven surfaces, slippery conditions, and outdoor noise exposure
  • Driving for extended periods of time
  • Exposure to allergens including but not limited to cedar, dust, poison ivy, pollen, sumac, etc.
  • Exposure to wildlife and insects
  • Exposure to construction sites, traffic work zones, and other field assignments

 

EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

  • The employee must arrive at work at 7:30 AM and must be available to work overtime as well as some nights and weekends (as needed). 
  • Extensive travel may be required.
