As the Student Life and Engagement Coordinator, you will play a pivotal role in fostering a vibrant campus community. Leading the development and coordination of student life and activities, you will promote student engagement, cultivate leadership, and contribute to college retention efforts. You'll support the growth of student-driven clubs and organizations, implementing co-curricular leadership programs to enhance student and organizational excellence. Additionally, you'll provide crucial student support and services by developing materials, facilitating workshops, and advising student governance activities. Coordinating and managing student clubs and organization programs, including policy development and budget management, will be key components of your responsibilities. Furthermore, you will actively engage in community service initiatives, oversee campus operations, and contribute to large-scale campus-wide events, such as the Student Awards Ceremony. Administrative tasks, including budget preparation and management, supervision of volunteers and student workers, and serving as a liaison to external departments, round out this multifaceted and impactful role. Your visible presence on campus and commitment to advocating for students will contribute to the overall success and vibrancy of the college community.

Salary & Benefits

  • Full Salary Range: $50,723 - $75,069/annual - depending on education and experience
  • Anticipated Hiring Range: $50,723 - $62,896/annual  - depending on education and experience
  • Cafeteria Plan: In addition to the base compensation, benefits-eligible employees receive an extra $5,640 per year to put toward benefit costs or to be used as additional take-home pay
  • Paid Holidays: 21 (including a full week off between Christmas and New Year’s Day and over Spring Break)
  • Vacation & Sick Leave: Approximately 17 paid vacation days & 9 paid sick leave days accrued annually

Student Engagement and Development:
  • Leads the development and coordination of student life and activities to promote student engagement, develop student leadership, and support college retention efforts.
  • Promotes and supports the development and engagement of student-driven clubs and organizations.
  • Implements co-curricular leadership programming and promotes student and organizational excellence.
  • Provide effective leadership and mentorship to the Student Ambassador program, guiding ambassadors in their roles, responsibilities, and professional development. Foster a positive and inclusive team culture that encourages collaboration, growth, and a strong sense of community among ambassadors.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Student Ambassador program, ensuring its alignment with the goals and mission of Student Life. Develop and implement initiatives to enhance the program's effectiveness, including training sessions, feedback mechanisms, and strategies for continuous improvement.
 
Student Support and Services:
  • Develops materials, facilitates workshops, and coordinates education on student development issues.
  • Advises student governance activities and student participation on college committees.
  • Coordinates student clubs and organization programs, including policy development and budget management.
  • Provides support to the Dean of Student Development and collaborates with various campus departments.

Community Engagement and Service:
  • Develops and promotes community service and volunteer opportunities for students.
  • Oversees and manages the daily operations of the Crater. 
  • Actively engages in creating large-scale campus-wide events, such as the Student Awards Ceremony.

Administrative and Budget Management:
  • Prepares, administers, and manages the department's operating budget and expenditures.
  • Supervises volunteers, interns, and student workers, including hiring, training, and evaluation.
  • Maintains a visible presence on campus and advocates on behalf of students.
  • Completes mandatory training and serves as a liaison to external departments and agencies.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge of student development, career development, academic advising and retention issues in higher education.  Knowledge of supervision and management of student employment and leadership. Knowledge of community resources and referral processes.   Ability to communicate effectively in business and interpersonal situations. Experience with Student Activities and ability to develop programs. Experience with grant funded programs, compliance and ability to manage budgets.  Demonstrated ability sensitivity to groups and individuals of differing cultural or socio-economic backgrounds. Experience with basic computer software. Experience with student activities and retention strategies in a higher education setting.   Experience working in student judicial affairs.

Bachelor's degree in education, psychology, or a related field, and 3-years of experience in student services in higher education or related field; or any equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job and/or as approved by the Human Resources Department.

Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in Counseling, Student Development, Educational Leadership or related field and two or more years experience in advisement, student development, educational leadership or related field.  One year or more related experience in a community or junior college.  Proven successful experience working with a diverse population. Experience establishing tracking systems for monitoring student progress and program requirement compliance. Experience working with culturally diverse students. Experience with student activities and leadership development programs. Experience with retention programs. Knowledge of grant-funded activities and compliance regulations.
