The Coconino County Treasurer's Office is responsible for the safekeeping, disbursement, and investment of public funds on deposit with the office for over 50 different taxing districts. Tax districts include all county departments, schools, fire, water, sanitary, hospital, and other special districts. The department is also responsible for collecting and enforcing property taxes on behalf of all taxing districts located within the county. Annually, the department sees over $1 billion in receipts and expenses and currently has over $450 million in assets under management.
The role of Public Service Specialist is crucial in ensuring the efficient functioning of the Taxpayer Services Division while maintaining the values of the Coconino County Treasurer's office. This position involves handling property tax payments with utmost attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and a commitment to providing exceptional customer service to the community while adhering to established financial and procedural protocols.
Under supervision performs work of moderate difficulty in assigned field; performs related work as assigned.

- Processing property tax payments using diverse payment methods such as cash, checks, credit and debit cards, electronic checks, direct deposits, automated clearing house (ACH), wire payments, and PayPal.
- Reconciling and handling a cash drawer, managing large quantities of cash.
- Checking tax documents for validity and accuracy of information, researching and clarifying payment issues and requests, performing mathematical calculations, recording, filing, sorting, and distributing related paperwork and documents, and reporting discrepancies.
- Updating property tax accounts, entering data into computer systems, processing transactions, and maintaining precise financial transaction records.
- Providing customer services, responding to requests for information, and attempting to resolve them by researching files and records within the scope of authority, updating, retrieving, and releasing information according to standard operating procedures, and referring matters requiring policy interpretation to the manager for resolution.
- Receiving, verifying, and processing all monies collected by other county departments and taxing districts and receipting in the computer system.
- Promoting and adhering to the workplace values of accountability, commitment, and teamwork.
- Maintaining confidentiality of work-related issues, customer records, and restricted County information.
- Performing related duties as required and within the scope of authority and training in compliance with County policies and quality standards.
Essential functions of this position include but not limited to: sitting, walking, standing, crouching, stooping, kneeling, reaching, bending and crawling for filing; working with and around others; dealing with interruptions; repetitive motion (hand/wrist/elbow/ shoulder) for computer work, filing, copying etc.; vision acuity (near) for computer work and reading documents; hearing and speech for ordinary conversation; finger dexterity and touch for typing.
Three years' experience in performing clerical or administrative work within subject area; OR,
Associate degree and two years' experience in performing clerical or administrative work within subject area; OR,
Bachelor's degree and one year experience in performing clerical or administrative work within the subject area; OR.
Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
The Ideal candidate shall be well organized, attentive to detail, ability to work with minimal supervision, proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, basic data entry, and managing schedules. The ideal candidate shall maintain excellent customer service skills and the ability to greet customers, answer phones and providing top notch public-facing customer support. The key attributes for an ideal candidate are the ability to multitask in a team environment while still completing independent job duties.
Preferred Qualifications: Three years of progressively responsible clerical or administrative experience in a State, County, or City government organization.
This position is non-exempt from overtime.
This position is safety sensitive.
Considerable knowledge of:- Federal, state, and local laws, policies, and practices pertinent to the area of specialization.
