Cocoon House Advocates work with at-risk and homeless youth ages 12-25 years old. Advocates engage street-dependent youth through street outreach and youth-driven, goal-based case management.

An advocate should expect to :

• Work flexible hours, typically (but not always) between 9am-7pm, Monday-Friday, for a total of forty hours a week.
• Provide youth driven case management for 25-30 at-risk or homeless youth, ages 12-25.
• Provide youth ages 18-25 with case management / support services while in young adult shelter.
• Build a network of agencies and resources in both their identified geographic location and in general throughout Snohomish County and the Puget Sound region.
• Provide general support to the functioning of programs, including performing weekly Street Outreach, being part of Cocoon House's Safe Place on-call rotation, and helping to cover shifts in other programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

Full-Time : Monday-Friday On-site in Everett & Throughout Snohomish County

Wage : $21-$22.50 / hr $1.50 / hr pay differential for multi-lingual skills with additional paperwork

Outreach & Networking

o Providing hands-on daily outreach to street dependent youth in Snohomish County, and promoting Cocoon House services through community outreach and presentations.

Consistently working on the development of networks and services specific to their geographic area and Snohomish County in general.

• Case Management
• Providing case management for 25-30 youth ages 12-25 years old throughout Snohomish County. Collecting prompt and accurate data required for case management files, surveys, youth stories, etc.

Providing youth-driven, strength-based case management based on positive youth development, focusing on assistance with employment, education, housing, substance abuse, medical care and legal needs.

• Documentation & Communication
• Will be available and responsive to emails and phone calls during expected business hours. Will be held accountable for accurate reporting of duties performed and services provided through both paper documentation and online database entry.

Will work positively and cooperatively as part of the entire Services Department and Cocoon House agency. Will promptly communicate to the Program Supervisor and / or Director of Services regarding any gaps in meeting expectations and supports needed by Cocoon House clients.

Minimum Qualifications :

• Spanish speaking / bi-lingual preferred.
• Staff from diverse cultural and experiential backgrounds strongly encouraged to apply, including members of the LGBTQ community.
• Professional or educational experience working with teens and / or young adults experiencing homelessness, or a similar population. Either :
• At least one year working directly with such populations, in a mentoring or case management-related capacity.
• A bachelor's degree in a social science, plus some professional or volunteer experience.
• Some combination of the above, or equivalent professional, personal or educational experience.
• Must be able to clear a background check through the Department of Social & Health Services.
• Must possess a valid Washington State driver's license, vehicle insurance, reliable transportation, and acceptable 3-year Department of Licensing drivers abstract.
• Must be capable of maintaining professional healthy boundaries with clients and co-workers.
• Accurate data recording skills, and timely reporting.
• Must be able to follow a flexibility, including occasional, availability outside 9am-7pm Mon-Friday (be responsive to work schedule as needed, not to exceed 40 hours a work week).
• Must be committed to anti-racist, inclusive, and equity-based work, and to incorporating the principles of trauma informed care in their work.

Working conditions :

• Mobility : ability to sit for long periods, move about an office, stand occasionally, reach above and below desk level.
• Dexterity : fine manipulation sufficient to operate a keyboard, handle individual papers, write and take notes.
• Lifting : occasional lifting of papers, files, equipment and material weighing up to 25 pounds.
• Visual Requirements : close vision sufficient to read files, documents, and computer screens and do close-up work; ability to adjust focus frequently.
• Hearing / Talking : ability to hear typical speech, speak and hear on the telephone, and speak in person.
• Emotional / Psychological Factors : ability to make decisions and concentrate; frequent contact with others including some public contact;

frequent deadlines and time-limited assignments.

Conditions include Advocate driving both the Cocoon House agency van and personal vehicle throughout Snohomish County, and transporting youth when applicable.

Support Outreach Programs by performing street outreach throughout Snohomish County, walking various distances and terrain, rain or shine.

Working on-site at the U-Turn Center within a street culture setting, jail / detention centers, schools, and shelter / housing and general locations.

As well as provide case management service on site at various hotels. Must be able to accomplish focused reporting requirements within the Advocate office setting that is energetic, cross talking, bull pen style office.

Working varied hours responsive to youth needs that may include early morning, late evening and weekends. Vital to this working position is the ability to accurately track duties performed and services rendered to clients.

Physical Requirements :

• Must have the ability to run up and down indoor and outdoor stairwells in case of youth emergency.
• Communicate effectively with youth, staff, other programs, vendors and the public, both orally and in writing.
• Possess close vision, far vision, side vision, depth perception, visual ability to read a variety of materials.
• Dexterity of hands and fingers to reach, handle and operate telephone, computer keyboard, record information in appropriate youth files and logs.
