Tasks & Duties

The data visualization specialist will be responsible for developing a web-based interactive dashboard that presents national estimates on hospital emergency department visits and admissions from the 2020 National Hospital Care Survey. The data to be presented includes detailed information on patients with drug-involved or drug-poisoning visits, derived from a drug identification algorithm. The specialist will work closely with the team that developed the algorithm and the office of information services to create a dashboard that is visually appealing with a user-friendly interface. The specialist will be responsible for dashboarding the analytical results produced from implementing the algorithm into compelling visuals that can be understood by general audiences. They will be expected to provide visual and technical guidance in the presentation of hospital utilization data and document the process taken to generate the National Hospital Care Survey dashboard, so that it is replicable.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field such as Data Science, Computer Science, Information Technology, Statistics, or a related discipline.
• A minimum of three years of experience in data visualization, ideally 4-5 years.
• Excellent visual skills, including demonstrable design knowledge, such as layout, typography, color, interaction design, and fluency with Adobe tools.
• Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau and PowerBI to present data in visual forms such as dashboards.
• Experience designing web-based dashboards.
• Experience with presenting health-related data is not required but is beneficial.
• Experience with programming languages such as R and Python.
• Familiarity with database management systems (SQL knowledge is beneficial).
• Experience with data cleaning, transformation, and manipulation.
• Additional skills required include good management, communication (written and oral), organizational, and interpersonal skills, resourcefulness, time management, and experience navigating matrix work organizations.
