Role Overview:
The Superintendent leads the day-to-day operations of a construction site, overseeing scheduling, production, material acquisition, workforce management, equipment utilization, quality control, and safety protocols. Ensures successful project completion by directly supervising on-site personnel and coordinating with any contracted services.
Key responsibilities include:
- Advocates for adherence to project standards and values, ensuring consistent outcomes for internal teams, external partners, and clients.
- Upholds integrity in construction practices, fostering an environment of honesty, unity, safety, and quality.
- Collaborates effectively with project management counterparts to facilitate successful project delivery and strengthen client relationships.
- Analyzes contract documents to develop construction procedures, considering start and completion times, staffing needs, and available resources and methodologies.
- Works closely with Project Managers to establish and maintain project schedules, utilizing forward-looking schedules to monitor progress and anticipate challenges.
- Facilitates pre-construction meetings with project stakeholders to ensure alignment and readiness prior to project mobilization.
- Manages procurement activities to ensure timely delivery of tools and materials in accordance with project requirements.
- Maintains ongoing communication with project stakeholders, including supervisory personnel, craft workers, subcontractors, and clients, to address construction issues, provide updates, and solicit input for problem-solving.
- Collaborates with labor representatives and supervisory personnel to address workforce grievances and maintain positive working relationships.
- Engages with engineering personnel, inspectors, and suppliers to resolve construction challenges and enhance construction methodologies.
- Conducts regular inspections to verify compliance with specifications, schedules, and quality standards.
- Contributes to the development of the Project Management Plan (PMP) in partnership with project management.
- Ensures consistent implementation of company policies, including safety protocols, quality standards, and equal opportunity practices.
- Oversees the completion of daily reports, safety checklists, weekly focus walks, and subcontractor reporting requirements.
- Facilitates morning safety huddles to promote safety awareness and coordination among project teams.
- Performs additional duties as assigned to support project objectives.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in construction or a related field, or equivalent experience of 5 years in commercial construction, demonstrating a solid understanding of construction processes.
- Proficient in interpreting and applying building codes and design requirements accurately, with the ability to read blueprints effectively.
- Strong administrative skills, including the ability to monitor work progress and coordinate activities, as well as keep stakeholders informed of project status and any potential issues.
- Demonstrated management capabilities, including proactive supervision of subordinates, effective delegation, and collaboration with team members. Committed to supporting colleagues, customers, subcontractors, and others in achieving their objectives.
