What are the responsibilities and job description for the Wall Street Reporter position at CoinDesk Opportunities?
As Wall Street reporter, you will be the eyes and ears for CoinDesk to uncover as well as cover what investment banks, brokerage firms and funds are doing regarding cryptocurrencies and blockchain as well as what trading strategies they’re using, and if they’re winning/losing relative to crypto native firms. By doing this you will ensure CoinDesk readers are fully up to date and that all content is accurate, punctual and written in CoinDesk style.
The ideal candidate has at least four years of journalism experience, with at least half of that time spent covering Wall Street. Knowledge of cryptocurrencies and related technologies is a plus but not required.
You are a self-starter with a track record of building a network of sources and using that network to break news and get scoops. You have an insatiable intellectual curiosity, a nose for news, a can-do/collaborative attitude and the ability to write clear, concise copy on tight deadlines.
THE POSITION
EDITORIAL
- Developing a robust network of contacts throughout banks, brokerage firms and funds in the U.S. for the express purpose of gaining exclusive access to news of interest to a crypto audience.
- Stories include analyst reports regarding crypto and blockchain, as well as crypto and crypto-adjacent companies, along with developments concerning traditional financial institutions’ investments and new product offerings in the crypto space. .
- Report and write articles per agreed-upon deadlines and schedule, incorporating feedback from CoinDesk editors.
- Scan regulatory and court filings, the market, analyst reports, news outlets, trade publications, blogs, websites, social media, online forums and other information sources for story leads
- Cover earnings as well as company and analyst calls/events for crypto/blockchain news.
- Learn to write concise, sophisticated pieces with a voice. The pieces will not only explain what happened but tell the reader why it matters and how it fits in with the overall picture.
- When necessary be able to write profiles and trend stories in narrative form.
- Focus on finding actionable trends to make our content as valuable to readers as possible.
WRITING
- Uncover and write scoops as pertains to crypto.
- Cover/write crypto-relevant news as breaks each day including analyst reports of the cryptocurrency and blockchain space, and summarizing other media.
- Work hand-in-glove with teams in other regions to uncover and help write/contribute to trend stories on Wall Street and elsewhere in the financial world.
- Work to confirm tips given to other CoinDesk reporters.
- Lend a hand to the markets team upon occasion to get analyst comments/reasons for market moves.
ENTREPRENEURIAL
- Assist CoinDesk in building local relationships
- Attend relevant events, meetups and conferences
