Responsible for oversight of all hourly and salaried payroll processing, support, and administration for corporate and regional operations
Main Responsibilities:

Assist with projects and tasks as assigned to support payroll/accounting functions
Payroll Processing/Administration:
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local legal requirements, tax regulations, and company policy
Leverage technology to gain payroll processing efficiencies and accuracy
Implement processes to build consistent, accurate and reliable payroll practices; make recommendations for enhancements and improvements to processes that create payroll efficiencies, reduce costs, and improve quality of service delivery
Prepare and update payroll policies and procedures to improve payroll processing capabilities and accuracy
Supervise collection, protection, confidentiality, and maintenance of payroll information and systems
Prepare and file weekly, monthly, quarterly and year-end payroll reporting (940, 941, state tax withholding etc.)
Regularly review, implement and up-date payroll system records
Oversee issuance of paychecks or electronic transfers to bank accounts according to established payroll cycles
Oversee and review benefit deductions and reconciliation
Oversee certified payroll reporting and compliance
Remit and reconcile federal, state and local government tax payments
Determine payroll liabilities by approving the calculation of employee federal and state income and social security taxes, unemployment, and workers’ compensation payments
Generate year-end W-2 process ensuring accuracy and timeliness
Reconcile payroll transactions to monthly bank statements using ADRA reconciliation system
Assist with interim and year-end audit
Act as subject matter expert; remain updated on payroll laws and regulations
Main Responsibilities Continued:
Communications/Training:
Maintain effective communications with corporate and regional personnel regarding payroll issues
Mentor, coach, train, and support continuous improvement of the payroll team
Communicate regularly with operations, HR, and accounting functions to review and improve cross-functional impact and data sharing to recommend and implement payroll best practices
Payroll Reconciliation and Accounting:
Maintain payroll-related general ledger accounts and reconcile within accounting system; resolve any discrepancies
Assist accounting team with monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing process
Prepare reports by compiling summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability and nontaxable wages
Determine payroll liabilities by approving the calculation of employee federal and state income and social security taxes, unemployment, and workers’ compensation payments

Education:
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, finance, or related discipline (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
Valid Driver’s License and clean driving history
Skills:
5 years of progressive experience in multi-location/multi-state payroll administration
Experience with prevailing wages/certified payroll in a construction or similar environment preferred
Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office Programs (Word, Outlook, Excel), accounting software (JD Edwards a plus); payroll systems; and other related software
Solid understanding of generally accepted accounting practices related to the payroll function
Ability to lead and develop others
Ability to communicate with, and build and maintain effective working relationships with others at all levels
Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints, and interact professionally with others
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
Physical Requirements:
Most work performed in an office environment, quiet to moderate noise level
Occasionally required to lift and /or move up to 25 pounds
Sitting for long periods (up to 8 hours or more) at a desk using a computer; with intermittent breaks
Occasionally required to stand and walk, reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; visiting work sites may require walking over uneven terrain and some exposure to dust, chemicals and loud noise
Some travel with overnight stays away from home may be required
Regularly required to use hands to feel, handle and manipulate objects, write, use a keyboard and/or mobile device
Regularly required to communicate (talk and hear), and perform tasks requiring visual acuity
