Job Summary
Maintain plant on a daily basis preforming routine maintenance tasks (i.e. lubrication, major and minor repairs) and clean up (i.e. shoveling, washing with a high pressure hose, running a skid steer loader). Operate and maintain in a safe manner various pieces of equipment, such as, but not limited to, front end loader, off road haul truck, road grader, water truck, service truck, skid steer loader.
Main Responsibilities
- Lubrication of all plant and fleet equipment – requires lifting of grease/lubrication containers (approximately 50 lbs.) Adding necessary fluids to any and all reservoirs and noting any additions on daily equipment sheets.
- Replacement of machine parts weighing as much as several hundred pounds.
- Perform pre startup inspections of assigned equipment. This may require the climbing up, over, and or on top of assigned equipment.
- Operate various pieces of equipment
- Ability to work in heights and sometimes tight spaces
Skills
- High School Graduate or GED
- Willingness to learn, take direction and follow safe work procedures
- Willingness to work weekends and long hours during peak season
- Drug and alcohol free
- Capable of working outdoors year round
- Mechanical aptitude (helpful but not necessary)
- 1-2 year’s industry experience (helpful but not necessary)
- Knowledge of welding, cutting, and fabrication (helpful but not necessary)
Physical Requirements
Physical requirements for work at a non-metal mining operation includes the full use of sight, hearing, smell, touch, and an intelligent, stable mental condition. The requirement for a good physical condition is of the utmost importance. This job requires the climbing of stairs, steel ladders, catwalks, crossing over catwalks and conveyor belts and the ability to carry pieces of steel, assorted plant maintenance repair parts, some of which are quite heavy, upstairs, steel ladders and catwalks. The use of shovels, hand tools, high pressure water hoses, and wrenches are common occurrences. Safety equipment includes safety belts, straps, helmets, goggles, gloves, and steel toes shoes. Hearing and eye protection is also required. One must be able to work in confined areas, with a minimum of working and moving space. The use of very small parts will require sensitive feeling in fingertips. An overall good physical condition is required.
Generally, this type of physical condition is required for all jobs at a mining operation. Many times personnel are shifted from one position to another whenever the plant breaks down and repairs are needed.
