Mission
Perform testing procedures under the supervision of the Laboratory Manager or direct supervisor and communicate the results effectively while keeping the lab in a clean and working condition.
Main Responsibilities
- Perform laboratory testing procedures in accordance with ASTM and AASHTO testing standards, as well as per the daily, weekly, and monthly requirements of necessary DOTs (departments of transportation).
- Calculate and record test results obtained.
- Communicate tests results and equipment/lab upkeep to the Laboratory Manager or direct supervisor
- Communicate tests results and ship samples to necessary DOTs.
- Ensure equipment is calibrated and standardized according to schedule
- Communicate with Laboratory Supervisor in order to maintain an adequate inventory of small equipment, chemicals, and other supplies needed in the laboratory
- Assist in training new hires and/or plant operators when using the incentive lab testing program
- Participate in proficiency testing program and any other round robin projects that Colas organizes.
- Keep workspace organized and clean. Documentation must be kept maintaining quality standards and be accessible to other laboratory personnel.
- Perform testing during AASHTO accreditation assessments or help acquire accreditation.
Requirements
- High School Diploma
- Knowledge of ASTM / AASHTO Emulsified Asphalt and Asphalt Binder tests methods and practices for which the employee has been trained.
- Ability to obtain Level II Certifications from GDOT to test Emulsified Asphalt and Asphalt Binder.
- Ability to obtain emulsion certification from NCDOT.
- Quality orientation and high attention to detail
- Consistent in testing and communicating in order to maintain strong repeatability of results.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all company wide employees, DOT employees, customers, and the general public.
- Frequently asked to stand, walk, use hands and fingers, reach with arms and hands
- Required to sit, stoop, kneel, or couch
- Employee must move and/ or lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to perform basic math skills such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Previous experience is in asphalt, quality control or laboratory environment is helpful.
