Dance Teacher (22/23SY)

Job description

The Dance Teacher will plan and organize instruction in ways that maximize student learning; employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies to communicate subject matter to students including strategies to meet diverse student needs. Candidates must demonstrate a knowledge of dance instruction as well as choreography.

Essential Functions

• Develops appropriate Dance Curriculum for students
• Conducts ongoing assessment of student growth and progress in dance activities, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed
• Maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures
• Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents
• Ensures that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and school policies, and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom
• Meets with other professional staff members, especially within the arts and related grade level, and participates in faculty meetings and committees
• Selects and requisitions appropriate instructional aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records in accordance with school policies and procedures

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Must have a strong educational background
• Knowledge of current Dance education instructional methods, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles
• Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the field of Dance
• Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws and regulations regarding education and students, as well as relating to dance
• Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed
• Ability to organize and coordinate work
• Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents
• Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work

Qualifications Profile

• NJ Certification as a Teacher of Dance
• Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment
• Educational Dance background preferred
