Job Function Summary:
The R&D Lab Technician is responsible for performing lab formulations, packaging testing, raw material and product evaluations to support Innovation and Product Support activities.
Major Areas of Accountability:
Performs batch sample preparations for Innovation and Product Support activities.
Communicates, documents, and discusses experimental observations.
Evaluates raw materials, intermediates, finished goods, and accelerated aged products with analytical and performance tests.
Record test data, observations, and results using standard laboratory data calculations and Good Documentation Practice (GDP). Verify notebook entries and calculations for lab staff.
Support new product scale-up and production support with product and process knowledge.
Assure equipment is calibrated prior to use and complete preventative maintenance, support the calibration program as needed.
Clean glassware, lab equipment, work stations and properly dispose of solvents and solvent containers.
Procure necessary raw materials, components, reagents, lab supplies to perform lab duties.
Follow requirements of cGMPs, ISO, USP, Coloplast and other regulatory standards and guidelines.
Follow the Quality and EHS (QEHS) Policy for the site.
Follow safe lab practices and observe MSDS precautions.
Other duties as assigned to promote efficient functioning of the Innovation Department
Essential Qualifications:
Position requires either a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, or related scientific field or 1 year of lab experience working in cosmetic, drug, medical device, biotechnology or food industries.
Proficient in the use of balances or scales.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with preparation of lab formulations of cosmetics, drugs, and/or medical device products
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of drug and medical device cGMPs and ISO requirements.
Ability to prioritize and perform tasks in established timeframes and communicate on technical issues.
Demonstrates excellent attention to detail and critical thinking skills
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Ability to multitask.
Experience with Microsoft Office Excel and Word software.
Ability to stand, perform some repetitive motions, reach above shoulder height, and handle containers (including various size drums and bags up to fifty pounds) for extended periods of time.
