SUMMARY:

The Colorado Mesa University Department of Music seeks a dynamic Cello Instructor for a full-time position to fulfill its mission to prepare musicians for the 21st Century. Colorado Mesa University prides itself on its mission to improve educational attainment on the Western Slope of Colorado. CMU values a personal approach that emphasizes small class sizes, quality faculty-student interaction and supporting students' journeys toward their degrees. Performance opportunities as principal of the Grand Junction Symphony may be available to the winning candidate

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Teach applied cello lessons
  • Recruit and retain a dynamic cello studio
  • Coach string chamber music
  • Teach academic courses and/or ensembles based on candidate qualifications and department need
  • Maintain a schedule of creative/scholarly activities
  • Advise music students on graduation requirements and careers

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
REQUIRED:
  • Master's degree in music
  • Significant teaching experience

PREFERRED: One or more of the following:
  • Contemporary skills in at least one of the following: music technology, music production, electronic music, diverse musical styles (jazz, folk, commercial, etc), and/or improvisation
  • Experience and success recruiting music students using a variety of contemporary methods
  • College teaching experience
  • Ability to teach music theory and ear training/sight singing courses
  • Experience in working with diverse populations in an inclusive environment
  • Doctoral degree in music or equivalent professional experience
