What are the responsibilities and job description for the Metallurgical Engineer position at Colorado Metallurgical Services?

Job Responsibilities

  • Plan and conduct failure analysis investigations including gathering metallurgical data and operating testing equipment (Microscopes, SEM, OES, XRF, Hardness Testers, etc.)
  • Prepare and examine metallographic specimens for optical microscopy
  • Operate SEM for fracture assessment, EDS, etc.
  • Report writing on root cause analyses for failures of metal components including fractures, corrosion, etc.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned

 Training and Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Metallurgy, Materials Science, or related field
  • Strong Computer Skills and Microsoft Office Proficient
  • 3 years’ experience in laboratory or forensic setting
  • Experience in operating various testing equipment related to machining operations or welding preferred

 Personal Characteristics

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Leadership skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with proven ability to take ownership of multiple projects with impeccable attention to detail
