Who We Are

Colorado Retina is a thirteen physician, sub-specialty eye care practice providing medical and surgical care of vitreoretinal eye disease. We provide comprehensive treatment for age-related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic retinopathy, retinal vascular disease, retinal detachments, ocular tumors, uveitis/inflammatory eye disease, inherited retinal degenerations and numerous other vitreoretinal conditions.


We are proud to be the largest retina practice in the Rocky Mountain region with the ability to collaborate as a team for highly complex cases. We provide five service locations in the Denver Metro area: East Denver (Central Park), Englewood, Lakewood, Lafayette, Parker, and Summit County.

Position Summary:

The Billing Claims Supervisor provides day to day leadership support to the insurance follow up team while always demonstrating a high level of integrity with communication, performance deliverables, and a dedication to internal and external customer satisfaction. The Billing Claims Supervisor will oversee billing staff; ensure proper training and processing in accordance with CMS compliance, Federal and State regulations, and Colorado Retina Associates policies.


Job duties/responsibilities:

  • Maintains the privacy and confidentiality of information and adheres to applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations.
  • Establishes productivity measures with Director, Revenue Cycle for payors.
  • Tracks employee productivity and submits reports to Director of Revenue Cycle on a weekly and monthly basis.
  • Partners with Revenue Cycle Director on billing projects, preparing data for meetings, and implementing initiatives.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates performance indicators for staff members. Identifies additional training needs and monitors performance against established indicators. Participates in grievance meetings as required.
  • Reviews internal controls to ensure proper follow up of services within established time frames and guidelines. Develops production schedules to ensure proper staffing and production levels are maintained. Monitors, reviews and communicates procedures with support staff.
  • Monitors billing accuracy and timeliness to identify appropriate corrective actions, training and systems modifications.
  • Performs random sampling of staff work, documents, and takes appropriate action.
  • Develops methodology necessary to identify all billable physician patient encounters and performed procedures.
  • Completes time reporting for direct reports and approves in the allotted time.
  • Hires, trains, coaches, disciplines and evaluates staff to ensure smooth operation and to maintain a high level of patient satisfaction and adherence to financial and productivity targets.
  • Participates in systems, financial, and medical billing meetings to represent administration and departments
  • Maintain high standard of professional conduct at all times. Provide the proper leadership, coaching, supervision, environment and reporting structure to assure productivity, and performance of employees in the department. Provide clear channels of communication, delegation and accountability within the units for effective supervision and problem solving.
  • Conduct monthly team meetings to address any issues, resolve problems, and implement department policies and procedures.
  • Works closely with Patient Finance to ensure, prevent and rectify prior-authorization related denials.

Education, Skills, and Experience:

  • Degree and/or equivalent combination of education and experience: A bachelor’s in business or related field preferred.
  • Two years of leadership experience required; Medical Billing preferred
  • Broad knowledge and experience in Billing practices
  • Above average skills in process improvement
  • Demonstrated ability to lead by example, maintain composure in stressful situations, communicate effectively
  • Experience in Leadership methodologies, motivation techniques, applying coaching principles
  • Ophthalmic Coding Specialist (OCS), preferred
