Description of Work Unit
The CEE Department at CSU is recognized both nationally and internationally for its education, research, and service and outreach programs, and is ranked in the top 40 of such programs in the USA. The CEE Department consists of 36 tenured and tenure-track faculty, 16 research scientists/scholars, 27 research associates, and 11 administrative professionals. Position Summary
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Colorado State University seeks a highly motivated Research Scientist I to work under the supervision of Prof. Hussam Mahmoud, George T. Abell Professor in Infrastructure and Director, Structural Laboratory. The Research Scientist will be required to work on the area of community resilience with a focus on the resilience of social institutions, including healthcare and education facilities. Knowledge of infrastructure damage, network analysis, interdependency quantifications, and data analytics is required. Proficiency in computer simulations and programming languages, including Python, C , MATLAB, and computer graphics and visualizations, is important. The Research Scientist will have access to state-of-the-art research facilities at Colorado State University and will get an opportunity to work alongside graduate students, postdocs, and other research scientists from various backgrounds and diverse cultural ethnicity.
Required Job Qualifications
- Applicants must hold a Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field by the date of hire.
- Must have demonstrated experience publishing scientific papers in the areas of community resilience, interdependency quantification, and modeling of social institutions.
- Must have experience with experimental testing of Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) repaired structures.
Preferred Job Qualifications
- Prior experience working on community resilience and social institution modeling.
- Demonstrated competency in programming and coding and ability to handle and organize large datasets.
- Demonstrated experience working in collaborative research settings.
