Position Title: Assistant Superintendent Student Learning

Evaluation Instrument: Performance will be evaluated annually by the Superintendent in accordance with Policy GBI-Evaluation of Personnel

Pay Grade: Administrative Salary Schedule

Pay Type: Salaried - Exempt

Retirement: TRS

Contract Work Year: 240 Days

Reports to: Superintendent

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Educational Specialist degree or higher in Administration and Supervision or Educational Leadership; Hold Standard Professional Tier II Georgia Educational Leadership Certification.

Essential Knowledge/Skills: Extensive knowledge of child development and growth, curriculum and instruction, curriculum development design and delivery model, and leadership principles. Extensive knowledge of Board of Education policies, procedures, rules, and practices at the state and local levels and a working knowledge of Georgia school laws. Ability to develop and administer the budget process and major projects or programs.

Experience: Minimum of five years of experience in administration or curriculum development at the system or local school level. Five years of successful experience in teaching. Previous experience in a supervisory role at the building level and central office level preferred.

GOAL
This administrative position includes, but is not limited to, several major responsibilities: to provide leadership and supervision in long and short range planning; to coordinate all aspects of school improvement through research, development, and evaluation; provide professional learning that increases each principals’ instructional and leadership capacity to ensure high quality instruction exists in every classroom resulting in improved achievement for all students; and to ensure that all programs are conducted in compliance with policies and procedures of the Board of Education, the Georgia State
Board of Education, as well as any other state and federal statutes.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervises and evaluates building principals.
  • Coaches and supports principals to help them grow as instructional leaders.
  • Engages in professional learning strategies to aid principals in effective instructional leadership.
  • Uses evidence of principals’ effectiveness to determine areas for improvement in principals’ practice
  • Provides administrators annual training and ongoing support for the teacher and leadership evaluation programs.
  • Establishes a mentor program for administrators that includes one-on-one support for all new administrators.
  • Coordinates and facilitates the new principal induction program.
  • Provides annual updates on FTE planning to all administrators so that funding is maximized in all programs.
  • Monitors the school improvement process.
  • Utilize school reports that serve to monitor and achieve school improvement goals.
  • Advocates for and informs the coherence of organizational vision, policies, and strategies to support the schools and student learning.
  • Assists the district in ensuring the community of schools with which they engage are culturally/socially responsive and have equitable access to resources necessary for the success of each student.
  • Engages in their own development and continuous improvement to help principals grow as instructional leaders.
  • Leads strategic change that continuously elevates the performance of the schools and sustains high- quality educational programs and opportunities across the district.
  • Carries out duties in accordance with federal and state laws, the Georgia Code of Ethics, and established state and local school board policies, regulations and practices.
  • Communicates effectively and appropriately with students, parents or guardians, district and school personnel, and other stakeholders to foster positive interactions and promote a positive educational climate.
  • Fulfills contractual obligations and assigned duties in a timely manner and performs professionally and efficiently other duties as assigned
