- This position starts at $18.50 per hour. After successful completion of the training program this position has the potential to become a permanent Bus Driver at $23.04 per hour.****
Bus Driver
- Drives a school bus on established routes, field trips, extra-pay trips, and athletic routes picking up and discharging students at designated locations.
- Assists students with special needs to insure their safe transport.
- Insures that all special needs equipment is utilized properly.
- Supervises the behavior of the students on the bus through verbal direction for the purpose of their safety.
- Conducts emergency evacuation drills to train students in proper safety evacuation procedures.
- Consults with principal or designee when behavior problems arise that cannot be resolved on the bus.
- Cleans and waxes interior and exterior of bus using a broom, mop or cloth to insure cleanliness as needed.
- Performs pre-trip inspection each time the bus leaves the compound and maintains appropriate records.
- Develops a route directional map at the beginning of the year and keeps it up-dated.
- Reports all mechanical defects in writing to maintenance personnel to schedule repair.
- Follows various departmental procedures as documented in the Bus Driver Handbook.
- Assists in the training and evaluation of new and/or potential bus drivers; may serve as an On-Bus Instructor (OBI).
- May perform general maintenance work at various properties of the Columbus City Schools during periods when buses are not in normal daily operation.

Bus Driver
- Five (5) years of experience as a licensed motor vehicle operator.
- Possession of a valid Class B, Commercial Driver's License allowing the operation of vehicles with air brakes and the following endorsements: Passenger (P) and School Bus (S).
- Possession of a valid certificate of completion for the Pre-Service Driver Training issued by the Ohio Department of Education for school bus drivers.
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Possession of a valid driver's license
- Five (5) years of legal driving experience
- Must be at least 21 years of age
