What are the responsibilities and job description for the Optometric Technician position at Columbus Optical?
Responsibilities:
- Perform preliminary testing and measurements for patients, including visual acuity, color vision, and depth perception.
- Assist with contact lens fittings and teach patients how to insert, remove, and care for their lenses.
- Conduct diagnostic tests such as visual field testing, retinal imaging, and corneal topography.
- Maintain accurate and detailed medical records using electronic systems such as Epic.
- Provide support to the optometrist during eye exams and procedures.
- Educate patients on proper eye care and answer any questions they may have.
- Assist with frame selection and sales in the optical dispensary.
- Process insurance claims and perform medical coding for billing purposes.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education or certification in optometry or ophthalmology is a plus.
- Previous experience as an optometric technician or in a similar role preferred.
- Knowledge of medical billing procedures and coding systems.
- Familiarity with retail math and sales techniques.
- Proficiency in using electronic medical record systems, such as Epic.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with patients of all ages, including pediatric patients.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately perform measurements and tests.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
