What are the responsibilities and job description for the Administrative Assistant I position at Comal County?
This position requires a thorough knowledge of clerical procedures. This individual has daily contact with the public, governmental officials and agencies and is responsible for providing clerical support wherever needed in the Jail.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Duties include the following:- Greets visitors-daily contact with the public.
- Answers the telephone, transfers calls, and takes messages when appropriate.
- Signs and receives certified mail and or packages received via USPS, FedEx, UPS, etc.
- Type/File/Copy/Fax/Mail/Receipt Money for Accident Reports.
- Receives citations/warnings daily from deputies and distributes to the appropriate JP and file copies alphabetically for department records.
- Assist dispatch with address updates to Bexar Metro.
- Keep daily log of visitors entering the Jail for security purposes.
- Assist by providing clerical support where needed.
- Report Dead Animals to Highway/Road Department daily.
- Attendance is an essential function of the job.

High school diploma or GED equivalent required. The individual should possess a thorough knowledge of clerical procedures and practices with accurate typing skills of 50 WPM. One (1) to two (2) years of experience in clerical operations.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, write and understand the English language.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
