What are the responsibilities and job description for the Clerk IV (Finance) position at Comal County?

Under the general supervision of the Bookkeeper/Corrections, the Clerk IV is responsible for the preparation of the ledger and tracking fees with each new incoming case. This individual collects and disburses fees and fines to the County and other government jurisdictions. The Clerk IV will process account information relating to inmate medical transactions and will be required to sign a HIPAA Privacy form acknowledging health care disclosure.
To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Duties include the following:- Reconciliation of receipts to funds collected and preparation of bank deposits for both the bond and commissary accounts.
- Enter receipts and disbursements of booking and bonding into separate general ledger systems and reconcile the same.
- Disburse bonding funds to appropriate courts.
- Other related duties as assigned.
- Attendance is an essential function of the job.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
A High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required. The individual should possess a thorough working knowledge of clerical procedures and practices with two (2) to three (3) years of experience, including computer applications (Microsoft Office Suite: Word and Excel) and accurate typing skills. This position requires a thorough knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting procedures and a basic knowledge of Auditing and Accounting policies. Extensive software skills are required and strong communication skills.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION
Possess a valid driver’s license.

The individual should possess proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel, QuickBooks, and a 10-key adding machine. Ability to multitask, possess good organizational skills, and legible handwriting.
