Job Summary: Our caregivers provide personalized, in-home care to the elderly and disabled. We provide care in three distinct areas, Companionship Care, Homemaking Services, and Personal Care. A guide to what those three areas of service may include is listed in this job description. Because we seek to provide our clients with the highest level of quality of life that is achievable and treat them with the dignity of a family member, our caregivers must be flexible enough to meet the changing needs of a client, and because of such the list on the back is intended only as a guide and not a complete, exclusive list of services.
Qualifications: Caregivers must be 18 years old, have a high school diploma or GED, and must be bondable and meet expectations for each of the following background checks: Criminal Background Investigation, Motor Vehicle Driving Record, Professional Reference Checks, and give permission to submit to random drug and alcohol testing. A felony criminal record will disqualify an applicant from employment, and all other checks and records will be reviewed and taken into consideration. Applicants must have reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, and proof of automobile insurance.
Prior caregiving experience, either personal or professional, is helpful but not required. Applicant must be genuinely concerned about helping people and have high moral standards of professionalism, honesty and integrity. Applicant must accept responsibility for learning and adhering to Comfort Keepers policies and procedures, be able to function in the home setting with minimal direct supervision, and maintain satisfactory relationships with administrative staff, clients, and family members. Dependability and punctuality are a must!
Performance: Each caregiver will be evaluated after initial 90 (ninety) days and annually, thereafter in the
following 11 areas of performance.
- Attitude-toward clients, office staff and other caregivers.
- Dependability-Reliability with scheduled and last minute appointments.
- Documentation-Complete, accurate and timely journal entries
- Promptness-On time to appointments.
- Attendance-always shows up at appointments.
- Assignment Acceptance-Willingness to accept any assignment within areas of flexibility.
- Flexibility- ability/comfort level with performing job tasks and openness of schedule.
- Housekeeping- ability/willingness to perform light housekeeping duties.
- Personal Care-ability/willingness to perform personal care duties.
- Client Satisfaction-determined by both positive and negative client feedback.
- Following CK Procedures-knowledge of and adherence to Comfort Keepers Policies.
Physical Demands: Caregiving requires moderate physical exertion on a regular basis such as needed for light housekeeping and/or for assisting clients in transferring and walking. Lifting only up to 25 pounds is permitted and may be required.
Work Hours: There is no guarantee of hours or full time status as work hours are constantly changing and flexible depending on the needs of the clients. Comfort Keepers will try to honor caregiver hours of availability when possible. New caregivers are usually started out with just a few hours a week and then their schedule is built up as clients become available.
Training: Caregivers are required to attend a New Employee Orientation and a Personal Care Skills Class upon hiring. Depending on the caregiver’s level of experience, on-the-job training will occur as well.
