About This Role
Every position at Common Citizen from seed to sale, is contributing to our mission to serve our fellow citizens of Michigan with the highest quality, safest cannabis product through our highly individualized and education-oriented provisioning centers. The Cultivation Citizens are a part of the Production Team from plant creation to harvest, and some post-harvest activity. This is a dynamic team, and as such daily tasks may vary, resulting in a fast paced and lively work environment. Cultivation Citizens rely on each other for support and are accountable to each other.
What You Will Be Doing
Outlined below is what we see you doing at this point in time. We are a fast-growing company looking for people that are excited to grow along with us.
Cultivation related work, including but not limited to:
- Always follow Standard Work procedures for all cultivation activities, to ensure consistent quality cannabis products
- Using state track and trace software to track all activities and work performed in the cultivation team: including plant tagging and tracking, waste tracking, nutrient and crop inputs, harvest entry, and harvest batch tracking
- Responsible for sanitation of equipment and production areas, preparation and maintenance of nutrient reservoirs and irrigation system
- Assure all cannabis products are free from contamination risk at all stages; from propagation to harvest
- Monitor for quality control checks to ensure process and product quality in line with company standards
- Maintain a clean and tidy workspace and displays a high standard of cleanliness and organization
- Collaborating with other Cultivation Citizens in daily cultivation tasks, training, and review of process with a continuous improvement mentality
- Managing the plant canopy and plant bottoming during the cultivation process
- Employ professional and clear communication practices to maintain a positive and progressive team atmosphere
- Identify a wide variety of conditions such as plant diseases, existence of insects, nutrient deficiencies, etc.
Harvest related work, including but not limited to:
- Pre-harvest fan leaf removal in the flower room and recording the waste
- Removing trellis netting, cutting down the plant, making or hand buck the plant, weighing the plant, and entering the wet weight into METRC
- Removing the waste fan leaves and hanging the plant for drying
- After the plant is dry, removing the flower from the stem and store for curing
Post-harvest work, including but not limited to:
- Monitoring the curing process and recording moisture content
- Trimming and sorting flower for packaging
The Experience You Bring and the Skills we need:
- Degree in Horticulture, Biology, Agriculture, or equivalent is preferred, but not required. Experience in agricultural or food safety/handling industry is acceptable in lieu of degree.
- Computer proficiency is a must. Experience with cannabis track-and-trace software such as BioTrack, MJ Freeway, or METRC is a plus.
- Efficient cultivation/production work ethic with application of problem-solving skills to overcome daily cultivation/production issues.
- Knowledge of plant diseases, insects and fungi, as well as plant treatment processes and options.
- Must have accountability, proactive behavior, strong attention to detail. Can follow company policies and contribute towards the goal of achieving production targets within set timelines.
Physical Requirements
- Regularly required to stand and/or sit for long periods of time
- Use hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
- Reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
- Occasionally required to stand and walk.
- Ability to withstand outdoor weather conditions including heat
- Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
