What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer camp instructor position at Commonpoint Queens?
Camp Background : Island Quest Day Camp joins the agencies of Commonpoint Queens, Friedberg JCC, Suffolk Y JCC, & Gural JCC in collaboration to utilize years of camping expertise to launch an innovative day camp located in Wheatley Heights at the Henry Kaufmann Campgrounds.
Island Quest Day Camp is open to campers ages 4-15 and will provide a unique, outdoor, unplugged opportunity for campers as they create their own adventure through our 3 unique Quest program areas;
Seek, Innovate and Compete. Island Quest Day Camp elevates camper voice and camper choice as young people are encouraged to build their own schedule while challenging themselves to explore new things in a safe and supportive camp environment.
Camp Dates :
2024 Season : June 27-August 22
Monday to Friday : 8am - 4pm
Position Purpose :
To further the mission of the camp through assisting in the planning of swimming activities at the camp’s waterfront. Deliver swim activities that are safe, fun, and appropriate to the camper’s age and abilities.
Essential Job Functions During Camp :
- Deliver a fun swim program to campers.
- Evaluate the aquatics abilities of campers and staff.
- Deliver creative swim program activities.
- Evaluate the success of the camp programs and the development of the camper's swim abilities and skills.
- Train camp staff and campers in safety procedures.
- Assist in the implementation of staff training at the pool.
- Ensure campers and staff follow safety procedures.
Minimum Qualifications & Requirements :
Must be 16 years of age(in Junior year of high school or above)
- Current certification in swim instruction is preferred(we can certify if needed).
- Current certification in first aid and CPR preferred(we can certify if needed).
- Energetic, enthusiastic and demonstrate a calm manner when interacting with parents and campers.
