What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Director of Communications position at Commonwealth Charter Academy?
Position Summary
Working from one of our Family Service Centers, the Assistant Director of Communications will assist to further develop, enhance, and expand the brand, reputation, and credibility of CCA as a statewide leader in online education. The ideal candidate also will have a background in creating and managing content for CCA’s social media channels to promote the success of students and families.
In order to be successful in any role at CCA, employee must carry out all responsibilities in such a way that demonstrates and models the values of CCA, abides by all standards and behaves in a professional and engaged manner at all times.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in developing a proactive approach to communication that includes a consistent, positive, and accurate portrayal of the school.
- Communicate clearly and concisely to a wide range of audiences.
- Assist in developing communications to diverse stakeholders.
- Assist in identifying opportunities to promote students and families.
- Assist in overseeing the school’s social media channels.
- Assist with planning and executing press and public events.
- Assist with government relations, as needed.
- Assist with management of marketing vendors, as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Proficiency in AP Style.
- Proficiency in writing press releases, opinion editorials, and columns.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Working knowledge of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.
- Working knowledge of social media etiquette and norms.
- Ability to multi-task and work under pressure.
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment, such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
Physical Demands
Requires the ability to lift, squat, sit, bend, and/or stand as necessary. Ability to travel to other sites/locations as needed.

Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, or related field.
- Eight years of relevant work experience.
- Experience in resolving complex issues.
