Description
The Kentucky Department of Parks is responsible for providing a sustainable system of parks that delivers quality programs, amenities, and services which create memorable experiences and a sense of place, contributes to the economic growth of the Commonwealth, and preserves the historic and natural integrity, and traditions of our parks for existing and future generations.
The Assistant Director I will assist the Division of Interpretation & Engagement in management, technical assistance, and strategic guidance. Working collaboratively with Central Office and Park Staff in the field, the Assistant Director will provide oversight to programming and events. They will provide technical guidance and feedback on Standard Operating Procedures and technical reporting. The Assistant Director will assist with strategic planning and implementation for the Division.

The Assistant Director I responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Review current programs and recreational opportunities at State Parks and make recommendations for improvement.
- Assist with training and development for Parks field staff to better fulfill Parks mission.
- Evaluate policies, reporting and data collection from Parks field staff and make recommendations.
- Supervise the Parks Program Coordinator, Parks Program Services Supervisor, and Wildlife Biologist (Vacant) positions in the Division.
- Perform the duties of the Director in his or her absence.
- Assist the Director with execution of other special events or Parks projects.
Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Four years of administrative or management experience.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: A master's degree will substitute for one year of the required experience.
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Additional administrative, management, or research experience will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Working Conditions
Incumbents working in this job title primarily perform duties in an office setting. Minimal travel may be required.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
