Description
The Kentucky Department for Community Based Services (DCBS) is a multi-faceted agency that provides services and program to enhance the self-sufficiency of families; improve safety and permanency for children and vulnerable adults; and engage families and community partners in a collaborative decision- making process.

DCBS seeks a Safety Administrator for the Jefferson Service Region. This individual will be responsible for the management of the overall safety program for the region. This includes safety policies and procedures to mitigate/prevent critical incidents impacting the physical well-being of both staff and clients, in both field and office environments. Candidate will also manage workplace injuries, OSHA reportable and recordable events, and injury prevention. The ability to organize safety presentations for meetings, solve safety issues, conduct facility safety surveys and inspections. Track corrective actions and incident data and review other important safety documents will be needed.

Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Manages the implementation of safety and/or health program strategies, policies, and procedures.
  • Formulate, implement, and adhere to safety and/or health program policy, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Conduct threat assessment on individuals impacting staff or client safety, using available technology and/ or social media.
  • Facilitate after-action reviews and/ or situation debriefs, after severe critical incidents.
  • Write detailed reports actions plans and recommendations for project development and corrective measures for appropriate staff.
  • Administer safety and/or health programs, training and/or activities with other employees.
  • Review accident and inspection reports to determine if corrective actions are required • Advise and assist other employees on highly technical safety issues and interpretations.
  • Conduct special safety and/or health investigations as required
  • Visit agency facilities and/or job sites to evaluate safety and/or health program performance, results, activities, and adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Research technical publications, materials, and literature to remain abreast of the most current occupational safety and/or health requirements.
  • Use various means to accumulate statistics that would indicate accident trends and causes.
  • Instruct, train, and lecture group on safety and/or health requirements.
  • Report directly to the organization's safety and/or health managers and top. management officials to ensure all areas of the organization's safety and/or health program, policies and/or procedures are being addressed and enforced throughout the agency.
  • Being available to respond to emergent situations, being physically accessible to the counties served.
Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as interpersonal skills with local staff and leadership.
  • Good customer service skills.
  • The ability to work well under pressure.
  • High degree of attention of detail.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.


EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Four years of experience in area of safety operations or inspection, incident management, or emergency services.


Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: NONE


Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Additional administrative, safety operations and/or inspection, incident management, or emergency services experience will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.


SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): NONE
Working Conditions
Incumbent must be able to make oral presentations. Travel may be required.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
