The position provides active leadership in the development, implementation, promotion, and evaluation of educational programs and interpretation related to the mission of the Pennsylvania Military Museum. This includes but is certainly not limited to interactive tours, workshops, lectures, virtual programs, exhibits, special events, and historical demonstrations.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK
In this role, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating the museum’s educational and interpretive programs. This includes ensuring programs are based on primary and secondary source historical research and that they align with current museum teaching methodologies and curriculum standards. You will also coordinate visitor center operations and manage the site volunteer program, providing training as well as evaluation and feedback. Work is performed independently in accordance with PHMC policies and procedures and professional standards under the supervision of the Site Administrator and in cooperation with museum and PHMC staff.
You will have the opportunity to work directly with the public, education groups, military units, veterans, and Gold Star families while also being responsible for the care and presentation of sometimes controversial, emotional, and stirring histories. Such public service is not to be taken lightly. You will be required to demonstrate tact and sound judgment on a daily basis.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Wednesday - Sunday, with a 60-minute lunch.
- Evening and weekend work for meetings and special events will be required.
- Telework: Telework for this position is on ad-hoc basis only and is subject to approval.
- Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
- One year as a Museum Educator 1; or
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training which would afford the applicant the required knowledges, skills, and abilities.

This position also requires at least six months of full-time professional experience in the following (experience must be comparable in scope and responsibility at a museum, historic site, battlefield, park or landmark with the mission of preserving and interpreting history):
- Developing, promoting, organizing, and delivering public history programs about U.S. military history. These public programs must utilize current best practices & pedagogical standards associated with museum and place-based education, cultural and historical interpretation, and the use of living history.

This position also requires at least six months of full-time professional experience in the following (experience must be comparable in scope and responsibility at a museum, historic site, battlefield, park or landmark with the mission of preserving and interpreting history):
- Being personally responsible for all aspects of planning, conducting, and reviewing interpretive programming that utilizes historic weapons demonstrations. Personal responsibility includes firing historic weapons in the delivery of an educational/interpretive program.
- This position also requires possession of a valid driver’s license, which is not under suspension.
- PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
