DESCRIPTION OF WORK
As a Career Advisor Trainee, you will learn effective strategies to promote and share our workforce development programs and services within established policies and regulations. For job seekers, you will gain proficiency in conducting vocational and career assessments, as well as planning and conducting group and individualized career counseling and coaching on resumé-writing, interviewing, job searching, networking techniques, and other topics. You will learn to apply our case management approach with teamwork and communication to effectively coordinate with other service providers, tracking each job seeker’s progress and ensuring each person finds a position that fits their needs. For employers, you will develop your abilities to analyze workforce needs and skill set requirements, refer qualified job seekers, coordinate special recruitment services, and propose hiring strategies and solutions to address both recruitment and retention.
In this position, you will develop, enhance, and learn to apply your knowledge of current and customized labor market information through PA CareerLink® online and help coordinate employer marketing activities with the media, community organizations, schools, and other entities. With us, you will help job seekers gain family sustaining jobs and ensure employers find skilled candidates. Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Erie.
- Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

- Note: Upon successful completion of the Career Advisor Trainee training program, Trainees will be promoted to Career Advisor.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Four years of public contact work that involved interviewing the public to obtain, provide, and evaluate information concerning employment or employability; or
- A bachelor’s degree.
- Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within three months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
