What are the responsibilities and job description for the Equipment Operator A (Wage) - Penn Nursery position at Commonwealth of Pennsylvania?

Are you someone who loves working outside and has a background operating heavy machinery? If that sounds like you, consider becoming a part of the Penn Nursery team at the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. You will get to operate equipment and vehicles while contributing to public service and advancing your career. The responsibilities of this role involve proficiently and safely operating machinery and equipment used in different tasks at the nursery. Additionally, you will carry out manual work as required to ensure the smooth functioning and upkeep of the forest nursery, sign shop, and table shop. You will also be responsible for conducting routine maintenance and handling minor repairs on all operated machinery, while reporting more complex repairs to your supervisor.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time seasonal employment WITHOUT benefits. The season runs from approximately March until November at which the employee is placed on leave without pay.
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Travel with possible overnight stay, and overtime are required during seedling lifting and collection seasons
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • Six months experience in the operation and maintenance of large vans, buses and single-chassis trucks with a gross vehicle weight of 10,001 pounds or more. or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training. 

Special Requirements: 
  • You must possess of a valid Class C Pennsylvania driver's license.

Conditions of Employment:
  • This position requires possession of a Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL).  

Other Requirements:
