Tidewater Community College has served South Hampton Roads – both students and employers – for 50 years. It has grown from 1 campus into a regional educational and economic force. TCC is the largest provider of higher education and workforce services in Hampton Roads, enrolling nearly 28,000 students in 2019-20. Founded in 1968 as a part of the Virginia Community College System, Tidewater Community College (TCC) services South Hampton Roads with 4 campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach, 7 regional centers and 2 important cultural institutions. The college had 3,203 graduates in 2019-2020, 40 percent of whom pursued degrees that would let them transfer to 4-year institutions. Of South Hampton Roads residents enrolled in higher education 36% enrolled at TCC. TCC’s institutional accreditation is affirmed through 2027 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
The Career Services Center Manager will contribute to the strategic direction, planning, and execution of current and future goals of the college for career development and employment opportunities for students and alumni. This position uses the following to support the purpose of this position: current job listings and opportunities; opportunities to meet and interact with employers; career, job, and internship fairs; career development training and exploration services; the College Central Network; job and career preparation workshops; resume review and writing workshops; and local, state, and federal partnerships. This position assists SNAP recipients with opportunities that will lead to paid employment and decreased dependency on assistance programs.
This is a restricted funded position.
Minimum Qualifications:
Working knowledge of principles and practices of college career development center.
Experience planning, managing, and executing events such as career and job fairs and job preparation workshops.
Skills with PC-based software including word processing, databases, spreadsheets, web page design, and web-based software for job listings and network communications.
Ability to demonstrate exceptional interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
Strong administrative and supervisory skills and the ability to independently handle multiple assignments with a high degree of efficiency and accuracy.
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, the public and local, state, and federal stakeholders.
Knowledge of a career/job-focused platform such as the College Central Network
Ability to provide excellent customer service and problem-solving techniques.
Demonstrated skills in all aspects of event planning, management, and execution.
Experience working in a community college setting.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience writing and editing resumes utilizing correct English grammar and punctuation.
Experience using eVA Purchasing Program, Student Information Systems (SIS), Administrative Information System (AIS).
