Job Duties

This is a grant funded restricted position. The availability of funding is scheduled to review annually. Continued employment is contingent on the continued availability of grant or non-federal funds.

The population health epidemiologist is responsible for carrying out a range of evaluative and analytical epidemiologic activities related to the assessment, monitoring, and dissemination of information related to public health issues in Crater Health District. Responsibilities include consulting on scientific and technical issues, survey creation, data collection/analysis, and providing health education and recommendations. This position reports to the Population Health Manager and provides epidemiological support to a number of district-wide initiatives, including community health assessment and community health improvement planning, program evaluation, quality improvement, qualitative data collection and analysis, quantitative data collection and analysis, data visualization, and responding to community data requests, including locating, interpreting, and presenting secondary data. This position receives mentorship and support from senior epidemiologists in the district and within the central office. Assigned work is reviewed for conformance with overall requirements, contribution to the assignment objectives, consistency of facts and figures, analytical methodology, and practicality of recommendations.

Minimum Qualifications

• Basic knowledge of population health issues, including the social determinants of health.
• Basic knowledge of methods of public health surveillance systems.
• Basic knowledge of program evaluation methods.
• Working knowledge of biostatistics and computer-based data analysis programs, for example SPSS, SASS, R and/or NVIVO.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Demonstrated ability to collect, analyze, and present qualitative and quantitative data.
• Some experience in epidemiology, public health, or a related area.

Additional Considerations

• Some knowledge of federal and state laws, regulations, and policies regarding the reporting and control of disease.
• Working knowledge of statistical software packages.
• Experience with database management systems, especially those used to manage population-based disease data.
