Job Duties

The Cumberland Plateau Health District is seeking to fill a WAGE Health Educator position at its Russell County Health Department located in Lebanon, Virginia. The successful candidate will work with the Coordinator of Project Aim to implement an adult identity mentoring program designed to reduce risk behaviors among youth by providing them with the motivation to make smart choices. The Health Educators will provide 12 educational sessions for students in schools, in 6th – 8th grades.

Please note: Wage employees are limited to working no more than 29 hours per week on average over the course of 12 months. Wage employees do not have access to state benefits.

This is a restricted position, which is solely funded by the SRAE grant for a one-year period ending September 30th of each year. The availability of funding is scheduled for review annually and periodically thereafter. Employment is contingent on the continued availability of grant or non-general funds.

Minimum Qualifications

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and or in writing
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
Ability to understand, remain non-judgmental
Must take initiative and be able to work independently at various hours in community.
A valid State Driver’s License is required to operate a state vehicle or if operating a personal vehicle while conducting business on behalf of the agency.

Additional Considerations

Previous experience to include prevention education to individuals or groups
Experience with presentations
Ability to independently analyze situations, data and documentation
Teaching in a group environment
Counseling or case management
Training and experience in the principles and practice of motivational interviewing especially with adolescents
