What are the responsibilities and job description for the Graphic Designer position at Communications?
The Brand Creative team at USC University Communications seeks a Graphic Designer who will be responsible for implementing the creative and marketing strategy of the University’s graphic identity and visual communications. Reporting to the Senior Design Manager, the Graphic Designer will work on projects that range from print, web and digital to environmental graphics, infographics and presentation materials. Strong typography, layout skills, and an eye for detail are a must. The person who fills this role will need to be a self-starter who can set priorities, meet deadlines and work independently and collaboratively. They will work closely with internal clients and will pay close attention to accuracy and quality control.
Job Responsibilities
The graphic designer will be involved in all phases of the project which will require strong time management and organizational skills allowing them to move easily between projects that vary greatly in scope and type.
Communication and problem solving skills are a must.
Demonstrate a solid sense of design, layout, and typography.
Creates concepts and executes ideas for projects across a range of formats (digital, web, print).
Basic understanding of production design standards.
Builds files to specifications with great accuracy and attention to detail.
Interacts positively and effectively with staff at all levels.
Interprets feedback positively and uses it to grow and improve.
Aware of current industry and technology standards.
Preferred Job Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in graphic design or related field
1-3 years of relevant experience in graphic design
Ideation (Moodboards, Idea Generation)
Technical Skills: InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, UI/UX (Sketch, Figma, XD)
After Effects is a plus
A basic understanding of HTML/CSS is a plus
Experience with WordPress or Salesforce is a plus

Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree Minimum Experience: 2 years Minimum Field of Expertise: Understanding of design issues, including browser usability and cross-platform compatibility. Solid foundation in studio design, typography, printing and layout. Work experience as a visual/graphic designer covering all aspects of artwork preparation, printing, and website creation. Requires thorough knowledge of typography, printing processes, selection of paper or other printing surfaces, and paper folding, binding and finishing. Knowledge of desktop publishing systems and specialized equipment related to periodical production.
