Community Action Partnerships of Western Nebraska (CAPWN) is a non-profit community-based health and human services organization that serves low-income, disadvantaged and those unable to meet their needs through other sources. The agency was established in 1965 and provides services to over 9,000 individuals, children and families in three main areas:
- Community Health Services: WIC, Commodity Supplemental Food, Foster Grandparents, Migrant Seasonal Head Start, and Child Development Center.
- Clinical Health Services: Primary Care, Reproductive Health, Diabetes Management, Immunizations, Migrant Health, Ryan White HIV; Behavioral Health including Counseling Services, Medication Management, Medication Assisted Treatment and Substance Use Counseling and Intensive Outpatient Services and Dental Services.

Job Title: Dental Hygienist Or Dental Hygienist Expanded Scope
Reports to: Dental Office Manager
Areas of Responsibility: Perform traditional dental hygiene services to all age groups as defined by State of Nebraska Rules and Regulations regarding scope of practice for practicing dental hygiene; identify and make referrals to clinic dentists for evaluation and treatment as indicated. Provide community screenings and other preventative measures.
Major Duties:
- Performs dental hygiene services, such as scaling, root planning, polishing, applying fluoride treatment and sealants, remove plaque and stains from teeth and beneath gums.
- Examine lymph nodes, gums and sores for signs of disease.
- Exposes, develops and appropriately uploads digital radiographs.
- Administers local anesthetic as directed by the dentist.
- Notes, charts and reports conditions of possible decay and disease to the dentist.
- Keeps records and makes reports regarding dental care.
- Provide patient education to improve oral health within standard procedure to people of varied backgrounds, toddlers to the elderly and diverse cultures.
- Provide community dental screenings and other preventative measures.
- Demonstrates an understanding of the importance of the health center’s mission in performing all aspects of this position.
- Follows established policies and procedures for safety, infection and exposure control.
- Attend training as required.
- Maintain current Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation certification (CPR).

Working Conditions:
- Dental Clinic environment, training, meetings, and community interaction.
- Well-lit, temperature-controlled clinical setting, with standard medical and office equipment available.
- Work is frequently stressful and requires meeting tight deadlines.
- Work in a highly volatile program in a state of change with many interruptions and interactions.
- The noise level in the work environment is above average.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to frequently bend, stoop, squat, walk and pull drawers.
- Manual dexterity sufficient to operate office and medical equipment.
- Must regularly talk, hear and have close vision ability to record and communicate appropriate documents and records.
- Occasionally lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds.
Minimum Qualifications Hygienist:
Grade: 24
- AA in Dental Hygiene from accredited college.
- Eligible to practice dental hygiene in the state of Nebraska
- Willing to work in a group practice setting at a public health dental clinic.
- Demonstrate ability to provide quality clinical care.
- Ability to communicate effectively and concisely both oral and written.
Grade: 25
- Meet the minimum qualifications above;
- Three years’ experience.
Grade: 26
- Meet the minimum qualifications above;
- Six years’ experience
