POSITION PURPOSE AND SUMMARY
Healthcare isn’t just for doctors and nurses. Clinical Engineering is an interdisciplinary field practiced in a variety of settings from manufacturing to hospitals. The clinical engineer is, by education and training, a problem solver, designing, planning, maintaining and integrating complex human and technological systems.
Hospital-based clinical engineers also fill other important functions in assuring that the medical equipment is safe and effective. These functions include participation in the planning process, construction management and in the assessment of new technology, assuring regulatory compliance in the medical technology management area, investigation in incidents, and active participation in training and education of technical and medical personnel. The scope of these activities is expanding significantly as medical technology continues to become integrated into systems and the line between medical, communications, and information systems continues to blur.
The Clinical Engineering Intern will work on projects and initiatives under the supervision of the Engineering Director and designated staff. As part of the team, the intern will develop an understanding for hospital operations processes and develop methods, tools, and documentation to ensure hospital buildings and equipment are safe and effective for patient care.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Required Education & Experience:
Junior level standing or higher in engineering course work leading to a Biomedical, Clinical, Industrial or Electrical Engineering degree from an ABET accredited 4-year college or university program.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Ability to perform assigned tasks and complete work on schedule with minimal supervision.
Eagerness to learn and accept challenges
Able to handle multiple tasks
Good oral and written communication skills
