The PCT reports directly to the department Nurse Manager and is responsible for performing technical and clinical tasks/procedures under the direction and supervision of the Registered and/or Licensed Practical Nurse. Common tasks includes assisting patients with activities of daily living, ambulation assistance, vital signs, specimen collection, and accuchecks. This person must perform all duties and tasks in a professional and courteous manner.
Education
High School diploma or equivalent. Prior experiences as a State Tested Nurse’s Aide (STNA), Nurse Aide, Certified Nurse Aide (CNA), or PCT Certification is preferred. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification must be obtained prior to the end of orientation.
Prior Work Experience
Six months of direct patient care experience within the previous twelve months; a valid licensure or certification as listed above; or current enrollment in Nursing School with at least one semester of clinical rotation completed is preferred.
Skills
Must be able to perform patient care tasks as delegated. Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask with constant interruptions while maintaining a pleasant demeanor is required. Effective interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written, are essential. Basic computer knowledge is required.
Independent Judgment
This position handles confidential records and is expected to follow both written and verbal instructions. While this position does not assume independent responsibility for patient care, the PCT must use good judgment and common sense when carrying out tasks and duties.
