What are the responsibilities and job description for the Direct Support Professional (Ben) position at Community Vision, Inc.?

Pay: $18.25/hr. $250 hiring bonus

Community Vision is seeking an experienced Direct Support Professional to support Ben, a thoughtful, engaging young man who lives near the Lloyd District in NE Portland.

Schedule: Part-time; 20 hrs/wk; Saturday and Sunday 8am-6pm

Description: Ben enjoys engaging one-on-one, going out in the community, reverse engineering music (think burning CD's), and working out on his stationary bike. Ben responds best when supported by female staff who can provide clear, direct communication. While he does speak verbally, he often has difficulty coming up with the words he needs in the moment and would benefit from staff who are skilled at picking up on the subtle cues of his nonverbal body language. Be warned! Once you make a connection with Ben, your fondness of him will likely remain forever.

Personal support needs will require you to be able to:

  • push, pull, lift up to 50 lbs.
  • transport Ben in your personal vehicle.
  • provide some assistance with negotiating steps and curbs (anything that requires depth perception).
  • provide partial assistance with direct care (bathing, dressing, eating, taking medication, etc.).
  • provide partial assistance with house-keeping (disinfecting, sweeping, laundry, washing dishes, etc).
  • provide full assistance with meal preparation (cook using kitchen utensils and appliances, etc.).
  • provide partial assistance with communication, decision-making, and informed choice.

Employment Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years or older with a high school diploma or the equivalent
  • One year of experience supporting individual(s) with disability, preferred
  • Ability to pass a criminal history check through Oregon DHS and not be listed on the OIG Exclusions List
  • Proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or have a qualified medical or religious exemption upon employment

Schedule:

COVID-19 considerations:
All employees required to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination.

One-on-one support reduces the amount of close contact our staff have with others.
