Description
The role of the Prevention and Intervention Education Support Specialist is to administer and support the Comprehensive Sexual Health Education program, Youth Behavioral Awareness, Social Emotional Learning, and Substance Use Group Counseling and other duties as assigned. Staff will be primarily supporting 5th-12th grade students within Kings Canyon Unified School District and surrounding areas (Caruthers, Raisin City, Orange Cove). This will be achieved by providing quality, comprehensive education and by ensuring a safe environment for students during presentations. Educators will be trained to utilize provided curriculum and will present required materials in a classroom setting.
Program Descriptions
Inform and guide students on specific topics in the following Prevention & Intervention Education Programs:
Comprehensive Sexual Health Education (CSHE) Educator
Facilitate California Comprehensive Sexual Health Education curriculum: (Positive Prevention Plus) at elementary and middle school sites
Youth Behavioral Awareness (YBA) Support
Facilitate presentations and bring behavioral health awareness education to students within the communities of Reedley & Dunlap through the following topics: Career and College Readiness, Self-care, Nutrition, Parent-Child Relationship (Events)
Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Support
Assist in preparing and facilitating presentations in the Expanded Learning Program (ELP) sites utilizing the Botvin Life Skill Training Curriculum
Substance Use Group Counseling
Conduct intake assessments
Utilize the following curriculum to guide strength-based group discussions: VIA Characters Strengths, Why Try, Resilience for Youth, and Stanford Prevention Toolkits
Facilitate a safe environment, psychoeducation, and an opportunity to build goals
Support students in identifying reason for use and also resist pressures to use substances
Qualifications:
2-3 years with relative work experience
Knowledge of youth development and health
Ability to present seemingly uncomfortable materials with tact and sensitivity
Ability to follow curriculum within a variety of time limitations
Proficient in oral communication in a classroom setting
Presents oneself in a professional manner that sets a good example for pupils
CA Driver License & reliable transportation
Education:Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social work, Counseling, Education, Health, Science, Child Development, Liberal Arts, or related field or higher degree
