Age:

  • Must be twenty-one years of age or older
     

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

Experience:

  • Experience in and/or knowledge of the Office of Juvenile Affairs and/or the juvenile justice system
     

Licensure/ Certification

  • Pass OSBI criminal history background
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Obtain CPR/First Aid, Managing Aggressive Behavior (MAB), Medication Administration Technician (MAT) training within 90 days of employment
  • Complete mandated training hours each year
     

Physical:

  • Be able to lift & carry up to 50 pounds
  • Full range of body motions
  • Ability to spend 80%-90% of time standing, walking, kneeling and/or reaching to perform office duties;
  • Speech and hearing is required 100% of time in order to communicate with juveniles
  • Sight is required 100% of the time in order to maintain security of the facility and juveniles
     

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to perform CPR/First Aid and MAB techniques
  •  Ability to manage, motivate and control a population of juvenile offenders in a fair, consistent and empathetic manner
  • Knowledge of property management to include building maintenance, equipment and inventory control; knowledge of facility surveillance system
  • Ability to use good judgment, follow guidelines, policies and procedures
  • Ability to work with aggressive and emotionally disturbed juveniles
  • Ability to communicate effectively
     

 

General Job Description

Oversees the security and safety of staff and residents of the juvenile detention facility.  Oversees maintenance, equipment, and inspection processes.   Supervises assigned staff.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Provide and ensure appropriate client care to juveniles served within the program through supervision and oversight through the following summary of duties and responsibilities to include but not be limited to:
    • Direct supervision of detention personnel and program operations.
    • Ensure direct care of juveniles served within the program through staff supervision, development, recruitment, and training.
    • Coordinate and maintain collateral assistance and facilitation of services as delineated within the contractual requirements specific to the program.
    • Maintain 24 hour on call availability as assigned
    • Coordinate and maintain collateral assistance and facilitation of services as delineated within the contractual requirements specific to the program.
    • Provide shift coverage and/or Kitchen support, as needed.
    • Assist in conducting and/or ensuring daily facility checks through room searches and inspections in accordance with prescribed format.
    • Conduct daily Kitchen checks in accordance with prescribed format.
    • Conduct daily Control Room Checks, Security Checks, and Maintenance Checks in accordance with prescribed format.
    • Supervise visits in accordance with the detainee visitation schedule. Supervise and escort visitors on facility tours.
    • Review staff reports of incidents, therapeutic holds and room restriction/confinement/sick days to address detainee’s behavioral issues, as needed.
    • Assist staff as a member of a crisis team to manage aggressive behavior of detainees and place detainees in rooms as appropriate.
    • Maintain basic safety procedures by completing the facility monitor procedural checklist within established timeframes; Environment, Health & Safety Log; and Safety record to include drills for fire, severe weather, power outage and bomb threat.
    • Coordinate the process to secure personal property of detainees to include medicine, property boxes, clothing boxes and items locked in the safe.

 

 

  • Works with the Director of the program and the Director of HR & CQI to accomplish various human resources issues and tasks through the following summary of duties and responsibilities to include but not be limited to:
    • Manages and coordinates employee schedules, employee overtime and shift coverage.
    • Assesses the needs for hires, helps process applications and conducts interviews with applicants.
    • Address employee issues and submit PIPs, if necessary, in a timely manner.
    • Coordinate, maintain and ensure time sheets are gathered and processed each pay period, in accordance with established time frame
    • Immediately report significant information to appropriate persons and notify supervisor of any unusual incidents occurring within are of responsibility.
    • Effectively communicate with staff, program clients, and public using appropriate communication between essential/non-essential information and to communicate to the appropriate party(ies).
    • Attend required training
  • Comply with organizational policies and procedures as demonstrated by:
    • Attendance
    • Promptness
    • Absence of documented policy violations (disciplinary actions)
    • Completion of the following:
      • Attend all mandatory in-service meetings
      • Maintain confidentiality at all times (Evaluated by lack of valid complaint)
      • Perform related work as assigned.
  • Comply with licensing standards/contract requirement mandates as demonstrated by:
    • Knowledge of licensing standards as they pertain to primary program
    • Knowledge of contract requirements
    • Absence of documented violations of licensing standards and contract requirements as mandates.

 

Performs all other duties, as assigned.
