Position Summary

The Pipeline Construction Field Safety Representative is responsible for performing Operator Qualification (OQ) evaluations and documentation in Veriforce. This position is also responsible for safety inspections at pipeline maintenance projects on operator locations and compressor stations. This position will work closely with Pipeline Operations, Project Management, and Field Supervisors to support projects timely and efficiently.

Position Key Accountabilities:
  • Perform OQ Evaluations in Veriforce and conduct site safety inspections.
  • As part of the Employee Onboarding process, conduct New Hire orientation for Pipeline hourly employees and assist those who only speak Spanish via a translator.
  • During New Hire Onboarding, accurately administer paperwork, including I–9, for submittal to HR for E–Verify and for timely and accurate payroll processing.
  • The position requires considerable attention to detail. New hire onboarding requires completing federal legal documents and confirming numerous data points for completion and accuracy.
  • Assist with coordinating training such as safety orientations and DOT Operator Qualification (ISNet, Veriforce, assist with online scheduling, learn the OQ systems).
  • Keep sufficient supply of safety material and equipment. Order Safety supplies and services as needed.
  • Assist with maintaining safety procedure manuals and guidelines.
  • Assist the HSE Director or others as directed with random drug testing, training expirations, equipment safety inspections and maintenance.
  • Assist and participate in job showings or pre–job meetings to review and adequately analyze the safety hazards, risk, and environment. Make reasonable suggestions to appropriately mitigate issues. Train personnel on safety requirements prior to project start date.
  • Communicate to HSE Director and Operations supervision appropriately and in a timely manner. Assists as directed with the resolution of difficult issues regarding customer safety issues or concerns.
  • Ability to maintain composure during periods of high stress and conflicting priorities, accomplishing deadline–driven commitments with a sense of urgency.
  • Maintain a valued relationship with all customers, their project teams, safety departments and representatives.
  • Must demonstrate the highest level of commitment to rules (i.e., safe driving, site safety rules, cleanliness and maintenance of company vehicle(s)), adhering to each company policy, and demonstrate business behavior that maintains a professional reputation of the company when interacting with co-workers, vendors and customers.
  • This position requires frequent travel and flexibility in work schedule. Travel can be 3–4 days during a work week and can be a few weeks straight going to various job sites in multiple states. Most work weeks are expected to be M–F or Monday–Saturday with Sunday off. Most of the longer trips are expected to be 2 weeks on the road, returning for a weekend off. Longer trips are likely to occur.
  • Required to travel to multiple project sites for days at a time with little notice, and travel to remote job sites for several weeks at a time. Exact schedule is determined by the HSE Director and communicated weekly.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Certifications/Skills:
  • Must have Veriforce OQ Evaluator credentials or obtain credentials within ten (10) weeks.
  • Must possess effective communication skills, verbal and written, to complete email and written reports as well as extensive telephone conversations.
  • Must be proficient with email, MS Word and basic Excel documents.
  • Bi–lingual Spanish preferred. If not bilingual, must be capable of coordinating a conversation between a Spanish speaking applicant and a translator in person or over the phone.
  • ISN / NCCER OQ credentials and experience preferred.
  • Must be familiar with OSHA rules and industry requirements that apply to pipeline construction, especially excavations, welding, heavy equipment, and paint coating applications.
  • Must be competent performing daily safety–related tasks such as completing a JSA, operating a 4–gas MSA meter, calibrating the meter, acting as a spotter, submitting a daily activity report.
  • Must confidently speak to small groups, and answer questions.
  • Demonstrated conflict resolution skills, with the ability to work effectively and efficiently with a wide variety of groups, cultures and individuals.
  • Position requires attention to details and demonstrated ability to train others with a variety of experience and skill sets throughout the company.
Minimum Education:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent GED. Associate Degree in Safety, Construction Management or Oil & Gas related program is preferred.
  • Candidate must have qualifications on pipeline coatings OQ’s and excavations or immediately become current.
  • Candidate must have safety training such as OSHA, PEC, Basic Plus, etc.
  • Excavation Competent Person documentation preferred.
  • CDL is a plus. Working knowledge of FMCSA requirements and load handling is beneficial for this role.
  • Certification and/or work experience on heavy equipment, dirt moving equipment, forklift, telehandler, crane and rigging are all valuable assets.
Minimum Experience:
  • Ten (10) years of industry experience required. Experience can be a combination of Field Supervision or Safety and OQ Evaluator experience.
  • Experience preferred in the pipeline/ construction/energy services industry.
  • Heavy equipment and FMCSA experience is an asset.
  • Must have TWIC or be eligible to obtain TWIC.
Physical Requirements:
  • Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 25 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects. Ability to climb stairs and a ladder as required.
  • Regular on–time physical attendance is required.
  • Ability to sit, stand, or walk for prolonged periods of time and throughout the day in an outdoor construction environment.
  • Duties require verbal communication abilities, visual acuity to written and computer screen data, accuracy in reading data, and manual coordination and dexterity in handling items and operation of computer equipment.
  • Ability to travel to multiple project sites for days and to remote job sites for several weeks at a time.
