General description

Join the Fiscal Management team as a Financial Reporting Analyst (Accountant VI)! Work involves Providing guidance to state agencies in resolving accounting and reporting issues with their general ledger. Research Governmental Accounting Standards Board literature to determine the accounting impact to the state and translating that impact to the agencies through the Annual Financial Report reporting requirements, which may include changes to statewide accounting procedures and systems. The candidate must have the ability to learn new concepts quickly and apply knowledge appropriately in a highly active environment with ever-changing circumstances. Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience in general financial/accounting, financial reporting, or financial statement auditing experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master’s degree in accounting or advanced degree in other related field (e.g., Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a closely related field).
  • Five years of general financial/accounting, financial reporting, or financial statement auditing experience.
  • State governmental or higher education accounting/auditing experience.
  • Accounting/auditing experience with federal grants, investments, bonds, and/or capital assets.
  • Consolidation Financial Reporting experience (multi-company).
  • SQL (Structure Query Language) or database experience.

Substitutions

Education requirement may be substituted with up to four (4) years of related experience.


In this role you will:

  • Prepares highly complex adjusting entries, ACFR financial statements’ notes, and work products related to the production of the ACFR.
  • Assists team leads and supervisor by regularly leading or assisting on projects within the section such as the AFR reporting requirements update and training, implementation of new GASB statements, providing training/mentoring of team members, identifying, and implementing improvements in policies and procedures for FRS tasks, and submitting reports to management on behalf of team lead or supervisor.
  • Reviews and analyzes highly complex state agencies’ (e.g., mid-size to large agencies having governmental funds with basis conversion entries, proprietary funds, and federal funds) financial data for accuracy, consistency, appropriateness, and conformity to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) or other accounting or reporting guidelines as defined by the Comptroller.
  • Provides technical and financial accounting assistance to highly complex state agencies (e.g., mid-size to large agencies having governmental funds with basis conversion entries, proprietary funds, and federal funds) with Uniform Statewide Accounting System (USAS) profiles, T-Code and Object code determination for transaction entry and error correction and assists with running queries/reports to analyze the financial data. Resolves customer issues and makes sound decisions/recommendations based on research and relevant facts.
  • Participates in the maintenance of the USAS including the maintenance of various USAS profiles, the annual USAS general ledger close, and agency profile clean-up.
