Technical Support Specialist

Position Purpose: This position focuses upon the support of technology-related services to users via the IT Service Helpdesk. The position assists in supporting audio and video needs on campus. The position assists in the support of the campus network and hardware resources. This position assists in the design, implementation and management of various IT services.
Responsibilities/Duties:
  • Responsible for addressing and managing helpdesk tickets in a friendly, professional, and timely fashion.
  • Troubleshoots, diagnoses, and resolves issues with hardware, software, network and A/V systems.
  • Develops documentation and knowledgebase articles related to IT services.
  • Provides assistance, training and support for instructors, staff and students in the use of instructional technologies.
  • Provides direct setup and support of A/V needs for campus events.
  • Assists in managing, training and supervising helpdesk student workers.
  • Assists in the administration of various software solutions including but not limited to Microsoft 365.
  • Assists in the deployment, installation and maintenance of desktops, laptops, printers, peripherals and software.
  • Assists in the installation and maintenance of physical network, server, telephony and A/V equipment.
  • Assists in tracking inventory of desktops, laptops, and peripherals.
  • Maintains currency with new and developing technologies.
  • This position requires a high degree of trust and integrity.
  • Other duties as assigned
Education:
Associates degree is required; Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related area is preferred. Work experience in this area is highly desirable.
Experience:
  • Work experience in this area is highly desirable and should include any or all of the following:
  • Managing and troubleshooting computer systems, including desktops and laptops running modern Windows and macOS operating systems.
  • Practical maintenance of computers, printers, A/V equipment and other peripherals.
  • Troubleshooting networks and server systems.
  • Management and troubleshooting of A/V equipment including projectors, HDMI connections, automation systems, speakers, microphones and conferencing systems.
  • Installating and troubleshooting, including TCP/IP routing and switching, wireless network, fiber optic cable, etc.
  • Practical maintenance of computers, printers and other peripherals.
  • System analysis and design.
  • Programming, specifically scripting related to system administration.
  • Working with users to establish needs and design, implement, test and maintain systems.
  • Experience working in a secure and confidential environment.
  • Experience in functioning in a fast-paced and challenging workplace environment involving high-pressure situations, multiple simultaneous projects, tight deadlines and a fluid structure with considerable independence.
Certifications:
Certifications related to the above items are desirable but not required.
Specialized Knowledge:
  • Knowledge of current and emerging technology trends, techniques and issues.
  • Must be able to develop a deep knowledge of our IT services.
Proficiencies:
  • Proficient in the use of and support of computers and software.
  • Ability to provide clear, friendly and professional support with focus on a good customer experience.
  • Ability to work with computer end-users to identify and solve problems at varying levels of competency.
  • Understanding of customer service principles.
Special Position Requirements:
  • Adhere to and enforce the appropriate security policies based on the sensitivity of company data.
  • Report any security related issues to the appropriate individuals.
  • Reduce risk of theft, fraud, or misuse of information assets by maintaining security on endpoints and IT infrastructure.
  • Knowledge and understanding of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.
