We are looking to add an Engineering Manager, Project Engineering to the Engineering team. You will be supported by an organization that is known as an industry leader in the mobile electrification market, that not only manufactures high quality products in the conductor bar, festoon, commutator, data communication, industrial cable, cord and hose reel lines, but provides "service after the sale" that drives our niche in the market. We are continuing to pioneer growth in our industry by enabling automation through our markets.

Qualified candidates will be results-focused, self-directed, data-driven, and able to adapt easily to the changing needs of the business and our customers. This is a hands-on position. You will be working with engineers, technicians, product development team, building prototypes and testing, and traveling to customer’s sites inspection to support commissioning activities.

Qualified candidates will possess the following:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field; or equivalent education.
  • 3-7 Years experience managing, leading, and coaching a technical team.
  • Licensed Professional Mechanical Engineer (PE) in Nebraska with ability to obtain reciprocity in other states such as New York.
  • Experience with technical review of specifications for quotations and large contract risk assessment.
  • Reviews design risk assessment, verification, and validation activities as required to assure products and provided solutions will meet customer’s technical and contractual requirements.
  • Ability to manage long project timelines and maintain a high level of productivity to achieve project milestones.
  • Experience writing design standards.
  • Use of 3D modeling software
  • Understanding and experience with regulatory codes such as UL, CSA, NEC and NFPA.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to communicate complex technical information to both technical and non-technical personnel.
  • Critical thinking and process-oriented mindset to resolve open issues and focus on continuous improvement throughout the team.
  • Willing and able to travel nationwide and internationally. Expected travel 10%.

Summary – Engineering Manager, Project Engineering

  • Manages a group of engineers and designers to complete project-specific engineering activities as identified and justified by a Business Development Manager, Market Development Manager, or Product Manager.
  • Accountable for resource allocation within the Project Engineering team, risk assessment and reduction activities, and project due dates for technical deliverables.
  • Reviews and approves ECOs, drawing packages, bills of materials, math data, and other technical documentation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include

  • Assures timely completion of Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), with specific attention to revenue-generating request.
  • Assures timely completion of large projects and custom engineered solutions.
  • Coordinates with the sales and project management teams to allocate resources and manage resource workloads.
  • Assures large project technical deliverable timelines are met
  • Leads technical review of specifications for quotations and large contract risk assessment. Takes action to reduce risks on active projects.
  • Leads all activities related to large project custom-engineered solution development including, but not limited to, designing, modeling, prototyping, evaluation, and testing.
  • Reviews design risk assessment, verification, and validation activities as required to assure products and provided solutions will meet customer’s technical and contractual requirements.
  • Assures projects follow established design and quality practices in accordance with company and department policy.
  • Builds application and product knowledge by developing design standards for transit systems, and components. Coordinates the Transit standardization roadmap with the Standardization team.
  • Supports research and development activities; creates appropriate designs of experiments, and provides feedback concerning test results.
  • Monitors and manages to department Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). ECO processing productivity, large project task completion rates, and works to continuously improve the quality of Engineering outputs.
  • Reviews Corrective Action Reports (CARs) and provides support to address root cause and close issues.
  • Travels to support engineering teams at both US CoE facilities as needed (Omaha, NE and Harlan, IA).
  • Travels to perform on-site inspections for large projects and to support commissioning activities both nationally and internationally.
  • Coordinates engineering activities across all engineering teams with the Director of Engineering, and Engineering Managers.

Supervisory and Leadership Responsibilities

  • Supervises a group of Engineers and Designers.
  • Interviews, hires, and trains employees. Completes 1 on 1s at a frequency appropriate for each direct report, assess employee performance, and correct behaviors when needed.
  • Provides leadership, know-how, and completes performance reviews for the team.
  • Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these team members. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

Qualified candidates will possess the following

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering; or equivalent education and experience.
  • A Mechanical PE License in Nebraska, and the ability to become licensed in other states as required.
  • 3 – 7 years’ experience managing and leading technical staff; engineering manager, supervisor, or other technical team lead.
  • Substantial knowledge of mechanical and electrical concepts with a solid understanding of mechanical and electrical product design and best practices.
  • Ability to manage long project timelines and maintain a high level of productivity to achieve project milestones.

During travel noise levels may require the use of hearing protection. Work in our prototype or test facility will require the use of PPE including safety glasses and steel-toe safety shoes.
