What are the responsibilities and job description for the College Admissions Consultant position at Confidential?
Are you an experienced admissions officer, college advisor, or college essay editor looking for a long-term, part-time role)? Then we have the position for you!
We are looking to hire one or two consultants for our small admission consulting practice. The position would entail working with 8th, 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students to provide high-level oversight and counseling on course planning, standardized testing, narrative building, and college list building. Consultants will also work with applying seniors in the summer and fall, providing assistance with essays, applications, and organization.
From Jan-May, hours vary and are dependent on the number of students you choose to take, with additional hours for preparatory work (list development, email and phone communications, and applicable research) and training (attending team meetings and individual training sessions).
From June through December, counselors work regularly with their cohort of applying seniors, who meet on a weekly or biweekly cadence, so the time commitment would be proportional with your total number of students and include additional time for students in rising grades. The hours are late afternoon and evenings and/or weekends, so you must be available to work at least two afternoon/evening shifts and, ideally, at least one weekend shift (hours are flexible). We work remotely with our students and hold all meetings over Zoom, so we will consider applicants from any geographical region.
We are looking for the following experience and qualifications:
- Minimum of bachelor’s degree required. (Note: Applications from current undergraduates will not be reviewed so please do not inquire.)
- Experience working with high school students required.
- Experience with admission essays (brainstorming, editing, outlining) required.
- Experience interfacing with undergraduate application forms required.
- Knowledge of the current admissions landscape required.
- Experience working in an admissions office, as an admissions reader, or as a college counselor in a high school or independent setting strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of high schools in the San Francisco Bay Area preferred.
We are looking for the following characteristics:
- Strong editing and writing skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Timeliness and responsiveness.
- Impeccable organizational skills.
- Confidence in presenting to and interacting with parents.
- Approachability, warmth, and directness with students.
- Ability to commit through mid-January required; interest in long-term work preferred.
Training will be provided; pay is commensurate with experience. This job is ideal for someone looking for flexible, part-time, intellectually stimulating work, who excels with one-on-one interactions, and who may be interested in a long-term, albeit cyclical, position. Please send your resume with a cover letter summarizing your relevant background and experience as well as your availability. References will be requested.
