POSITION SUMMARY:
The Health & Safety Supervisor will provide technical safety and health support to personnel. The H & S Supervisor will develop safety and health programs and objectives for the plant and company personnel to ensure compliance with Federal and State safety and health regulations. Coordinate with a third party provider regarding any Federal or State environmental regulations and requirements.
Pay rate based on work experience and knowledge.
RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES:* All personnel are responsible for meeting the Quality Objectives in their position/department. Other duties may be assigned beyond the core responsibilities/accountabilities listed below.*
- Creating and maintaining a safety and training management system. Improving the company’s occupational health and continually coordinating the promotion and operation of new processes and technology as needed. Comprehensively monitoring safety and training policies, programs and procedures. Establishing an employee training schedule for safety according to state and federal law. Identifying company safety training needs and develop annual Company safety and health goals.
- Supporting facility engineering to implement engineering controls to eliminate, minimize or control safety and occupational health hazards resulting from human error, equipment and machine operations which may lead to human injury and or property damage.
- Establishing, tracking and maintaining employee training files. Periodically auditing practices and records to ensure compliance with company programs and Federal and State occupational safety and health regulations.
- Accident prevention programs, investigations, analyzing outcomes and handling safety and environmental accidents. Oversee all near misses, lost-time injuries/illnesses and Workers’ Compensation Claims. Reviewing injury/illness and non-injury incident investigation reports and follow-up as necessary.
- Participating in product/process reviews including process hazard analyses, Operator training, etc. Assisting, as needed, personnel in selection of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Maintaining safety library (videos, regulations, reference manuals) etc. Promoting safety and health awareness through internal company memoranda, newsletters, fliers, posters and specific training programs.
- Assisting in establishing Health and Safety Committee and serve on as a member. Reviewing Health and Safety Committee meeting minutes and safety inspection reports.
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The qualifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- Five (5) years or more of Safety, Health and Training work experience preferred and preferably in a heavy industrial setting and within a Supervisory role.
- Bachelor’s Degree or above in safety science/engineering/industrial hygiene discipline preferred and/or any equivalent combination of education and/or directly related job experience.
- Valid Texas Driver’s License.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to effectively deal with other people, especially other Company personnel, to enlist needed cooperation in implementing regulatory requirements.
- Leadership skills to effectively direct trainees while in a training class environment and ability to properly evaluate comprehension and application of subject material.
- Requires initiative, motivation, creativity and ability to understand many areas of expertise.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to work in heat, cold, dust, noise, vibrations and confined space and hazardous conditions.
- Ability to work in a high temperature environment, working high above the ground and work in outdoor environment.
- Normal physical activity includes frequent sitting, standing, and walking in a usual workday.
- Requires frequent bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, crawling, climbing a ladder and stairs, and reaching above shoulder level.
- Requires employee to occasionally lift and carry heavy objects weighing 50 - 100 lbs.
- Requires occasional twisting when answering the telephone or typing at the computer.
- Requires retrieving files by pulling out and pushing in potentially heavy filing cabinet drawers and other objects.
- Required use of the five senses (hearing, seeing, touching, smelling, and tasting) to perform various job duties.
Requires employee to use hands, arms, feet, legs, neck and head while performing Company tasks.
