What are the responsibilities and job description for the Ophthalmic Scribe position at Confidential?
The scribe is primarily responsible for transcribing the doctor's notes & findings in the exam room by updating patient history, physical exam and other pertinent health information
This position is also responsible for assisting the doctor in the clinic and in minor surgical procedures by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Interviews and records patients’ medical histories
- Prepares patients for examination or treatment by the physician
- Enters patients’ medical information into the electronic patient medical record
- Performs technical work ups and diagnostic testing by operating various ophthalmic equipment to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of the patient, as ordered by the physician
- Transcribes physician’s examination data into patient’s electronic medical record
- Instills eye medications, as ordered by the physician
- Communicates with patients about their prescriptions, follow up care, procedures, symptoms, and/or post-operative status
- Prepares treatment rooms for patient exams, keeping the rooms neat and clean
- Maintains and sterilizes medical equipment, instruments, and facilities
- Performs various clerical or administrative functions, such as maintaining medical records, sending correspondence to pharmacies or other authorized parties, maintaining an inventory of supplies
- Follows applicable policies and procedures and takes precautions to establish a safe work environment
- Performs other duties as assigned
Job Requirements:
- Certifications and Licenses: Valid COA, COT, or Ophthalmic Scribe Certified preferred
- 2 Yrs of Ophthalmic Scribe experience preferred
- EMR experience, NextGen, preferred
