Job Purpose
The Quality Safety and Environmental manager directs and oversees the Quality Assurance team and leads the local Plant team in Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) programs.
This position is primarily responsible for the development, implementation, and integration of the corporate Quality / Food Safety Management / EHS System(s) across the Riverside facility. The QSE audits and validates compliance across internal groups (Quality, Shipping & Receiving, Recycling, Pellet, Maintenance) and works directly with the Plant Manager and facility managers to correct or manage non-compliance issues within the groups. The QSE will support and maintain the company’s Injury Illness & Prevention Program and ensure full regulatory compliance with all applicable environmental and government requirements. This position will be responsible for assisting and working with management to successfully implement the safety programs for the facility. The QSE champions and supports quality, safety and environmental improvement initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and integrate a quality and food safety management system.
- Develop, maintain, and integrate an EHS system including but not limited to
- IIPP and other Employee Programs with support from HR and Admin
- SWPP
- CERS
- Storm Water
- Industrial user
- SCAQMD
- Define, develop, and write policies, work instructions, and/or procedures
- Train employees
- Ensure tests and procedures are properly understood, carried out and evaluated
- Is the primary liaison or point:
- For investigating customer complaints
- Collaborating with other members of management
- Talking and directly to and interacting with customers
- For specifications and system information requested by our customers
- For customer data acquisition and portals
- Supplier interactions
- Supplier audits
- System audits by our customers or third-party auditors
- For response to complaints or NOV’s (Notice of Violations)
- Providing data to agencies or customers
- Validates quality processes by establishing product specifications and quality attributes; measuring production; documenting evidence; determining operational and performance qualification; writing and updating quality assurance procedures.
- Prepares quality documentation and reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information and trends including failed processes, stability studies, recalls, corrective actions, and re-validations.
- Coordinate internal safety audits
- Establish and maintain monthly safety committee meetings
- Actively participate in the investigation of accidents and injuries and subsequent corrective actions
- Validates EHS programs to include writing and updating EHS procedures.
- Assists facility personnel in the performance of Risk Assessments and Observational Behavior Audits
- Other duties as required by management.
- Maintain trained staffing of local Quality department at headcount and skill levels required to meet the needs of the facility.
Qualifications and Experience

- 4 year advanced degree or equivalent experience
- Able to read, write, and speak English
- Excellent verbal, written, and computer skills
- Experience with measuring equipment, SPC and quality systems.
- Familiarity with lab equipment and test methods
- 1-2 years’ experience in administration of EHS programs in the State of California
- ISO or ANSI experience preferred
Working Conditions
- Work requires normal manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination
- Corrected hearing and vision to normal acceptable range
- A significant amount of time will be spent in a production environment
- Production area is not climate controlled and may experience extreme temperatures
- This position requires approximately 4-6 hours per day standing and/or walking.
- This position requires the ability to climb stairs and ladders
