Connecticut College is conducting a regional search for an assistant director to work in the Holleran Center for community action. The Assistant Director of the Certificate Program in Community Action and Public Policy (PICA) at the Holleran Center works closely with the staff and faculty directors to coordinate all aspects of PICA, to support the development of the PICA scholar-activists enrolled in this high impact program. The Assistant Director provides leadership in the day to day management and implementation of the PICA program, and works with the faculty teaching the PICA core courses to support course-specific learning goals and PICA scholar development in the sophomore, junior, and senior years. The Assistant Director is an integral part of the leadership team and works in this role to make decisions about Holleran Center programming and plan for program assessment and monitoring. General Duties &
Responsibilities:
  • Oversee PICA scholars’ progress throughout the certificate program to include monitoring of academic progress, internships, coursework, senior seminar and senior integrative project
  • Plan and implement curriculum and program activities for PICA including: the annual PICA senior academic conference and banquet, PICA Certificate Ceremony and reception, retreats, additional workshops/trainings as needed, informal gatherings and community building events
  • Plan and implement outreach and recruitment efforts for the PICA Certificate Program
  • Coordinate certificate program application process to include: advising applicants, guiding the completion of the application, facilitating assignment of faculty advisors, compiling all PICA application and review materials, evaluation of applications and selection of scholars
  • With the Gateway Course instructor, advise PICA sophomore scholars as they complete the gateway course and community learning projects
  • Coordinate community partnership programs and other community learning placements connected to the PICA gateway course and junior seminar
  • Work with the Hale Center for Career and Professional Development to support the summer internship placements process for all PICA scholars
  • With the Senior Seminar instructor, advise PICA senior scholars as they complete their senior integrative projects and prepare for the All College Symposium, their conference and certificate ceremony
  • Strengthen the PICA alumni network by maintaining communication, organizing alunni speakers and publications and connecting alumni with current students in the areas of employment, information on careers and internships
  • Supervise Holleran Center Fellows
  • Maintain and update PICA documents and public relations materials such as brochures, posters, handbooks, recruitment materials, online materials, etc.
  • Work with Holleran Center’s Student Community Engagement Specialist and College Communications to update Center website, social media, and other print publications
  • Compile PICA-related quantitative and qualitative data for annual reports, strategic planning, and grant applications
  • Participate in the assessment of all PICA programs
  • Maintain all PICA records and archives
  • Collaborate with Holleran Center team on special programs and initiatives on and off campus
  • Assist with day-to-day operations of the Holleran Center such as greeting students and visitors and helping them navigate Center resources
  • Represent the Holleran Center on a variety of committees, collaborations, and events
Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in liberal arts, business, human services or related field and 3 to 4 years of experience in higher education, community engagement and/or community service. Strong communication skills and ability to interact and maintain relationships with a variety of people from all aspects of the college and community. Strong skills in survey development and other forms of assessment, data analysis skills, and program evaluation knowledge and excellent oral and written communication skills. Must have strong computer and technology skills with the ability to create promotional materials, update website and social media accounts and excellent organizational, administrative and project management skills. Incumbent must also be able to set priorities and keep to deadlines, work independently, multi-task, and exercise judgment and take initiative and quickly problem solve. Occasional evening and weekend work and occasional travel required.
